BEFORE AND DURING OBSERVATION a SKILLED observer learns with Purpose Focus Intentionality
Strategies to record and document efficiently * Use tables/matrices, checklist that you can fill out with data you are observing Write brief notes of details you see while using the checklist Have a small notebook, pad or sticky notes ready for jotting additional notes Use apps record your observation data Draw sketches or observational drawings
Strategies to record and document efficiently Tally behaviors. An example would be noting how many times a learner got up from his or her chair within the whole class period. Making lists. An example would be making a list of words that a toddler used within a specified time. Write transcripts. This strategy is useful when you pair your observation with interview or when you are documenting what you observed in a specific incident.
Strategies to record and document efficiently Use audio or video gadget/equipment to record data with permission from the teacher and learners. Some schools require parents’ consent. Take pictures with permnission as well
