Food Safety and Standards (Labelling and Display) Regulations, 2020 Seminar Presentation Chapter 1 & Chapter 2

Chapter 1: General • Short Title and Commencement • Prescribes labelling of pre-packaged foods & display at premises • Compliance effective from July 2022 • Definitions: - Assorted pack, Best before date, Lot/Batch number - Date of manufacture/packaging - Pre-packaged food, Principal display panel - Vegetarian & Non-Vegetarian food - Recommended Dietary Allowances (RDA)

Chapter 2: Labelling of Pre-packaged Foods • General Requirements: - Mandatory label information - Clear, prominent, indelible text - English/Hindi, no misleading claims - Packaging must show declarations • Exemptions for small packages & special cases

Labelling Requirements Every package must include: • Name of food • List of ingredients (descending order) • Nutritional information (per 100g/ml & RDA%) • Veg/Non-Veg logo • Food additives details • Manufacturer’s name & address • FSSAI logo & license number • Net quantity, retail price & consumer care details

Additional Labelling Rules • Lot/Code/Batch identification • Date of manufacture/packaging & Expiry/Best before • Country of origin (for imported foods) • Instructions for use (e.g., ‘Refrigerate after opening’) • Allergen declaration (e.g., gluten, nuts, milk, soy) • Mandatory declarations for special foods (Schedule-II) • Principal display panel – size, lettering & placement rules
