Every complete sentence contains two
parts: a subject and a predicate.
Subject: Doer of an action
The subjectis what (or whom) the
sentence is about, while the
predicatetells something about the
subject.

How to Find Verb, Subject, Object
Find Verb.
Raise the question, Who. Answer is subject.
Combine subject and verb, raise question,
what. Answer is object.

Simple Subject and Simple Predicate
Every subject is built
around one noun or
pronoun (or more). When
all other words are
removed the simple
subjectis left.

Simple Subject
A pieceof chocolatewould
taste great.
The main word in the subjectis the noun
“chocolate,” so “chocolate'' is the simple
subject.

Simple Predicate
A simple predicateis
always the verb or
verbs that links up with
the subject.

A piece of chocolate candy
would tastegreat.
The simple predicate is ``would
taste'' --in other words,
the verb of the sentence.

compound subject--a
