Functions of Management Planning Organizing Leading Controlling

PLANNING - Setting goals, establishing strategies, and developing plans to coordinate activities. Involves selecting a course of action and specifying how action will be implemented to attain the organization’s objectives.

ORGANIZING - Determining what needs to be done, how it will be done, and who is to do it. Is designing a formal structure of tasks and authority in which personnel and material resources are arranged to carry out plans and objectives. This is also known the backbone of the management.

LEADING - motivating, leading, and any other actions involved in dealing with people. This requires the ability to motivate and effectively direct people. Managers assign tasks to employees, solve on-the-spot problems, and make many small decisions that affect customers and employees.

CONTROLLING - Monitoring activities to ensure that they are accomplished as planned. Is evaluating performance to see whether objectives are being met and the application of corrective actions if they are not.

GROUP ACTIVITY Divided the class into 5 groups. Each group will decide and discuss with their groupmates what kind of business scenario they are going to present and relate management functions in setting up a business in a span of 8 minutes.
