ILL EFFECTS OF GANGA POLLUTION People who use this water may suffer from Typhoid , Cholera , Dysentery and other waterborn diseases. They may suffer from variety of skin infections. High level of coliform bacteria in the ganga makes it unfit for agricultural.

WHAT IS GANGA ACTION PLAN(GAP)? The Ganga Action plan was launched in India on 14th January 1986 by Rajiv Gandhi. Its main objective was to protect the river from the hazards of pollution. Boat for cleaning river ganga.

STATE WHERE GANGA ACTION PLAN (GAP) WAS LAUNCHED In 6 towns of Uttar Pradesh. In 4 towns of Bihar. In 15 towns of West Bengal.

OBJECTIVES OF GAP To improve the water quality. Treatment of domestic sewage . prevent toxic and industrial chemical waters entering into the river.

DIFFERENT PHASES GAP Phase 1 was lanched on June 1985. It was the first attempt by goverment to clean the ganga river. Phase 2 was approved from 1993 on word. Phase-1 Phase-2

FAILURE OF GAP Inappropriate environmental planning. Insignificant cooperation between central government &local government bodies. Lack of local experts for monitoring. Least political dedication to save Ganga.
