Garment Defects
Introduction Garments quality depends on controlling defects created in different parts of garments manufacturing Because of the complex manufacturing system in the apparel industry, defects are generated So it’s a very big deal to control the quality in the apparel industry List of defects : Cutting Sewing Assembling Pressing/Ironing Finishing and Packaging
Cutting Defects Marker or Perforator: Not stapled or stenciled on lay to catch both edges causing parts to miss in cutting. Too tight or too loose, distorting dimensions of garment. Perforated stencil ,not powdered or inked, sufficiently to show distinct lines, notches and punch marks Misplaced Piece Rate Tickets or Bundle Members: Attached to, or marked on, wrong bundles, causing mixed sizes or land shades. Drill Marks: Drill marks misplaced, not perpendicular, omitted or wrong side drill used. Opening Slits: Cut under above to the side or at incorrect angle. Not cut through entire bundle or omitted. Improper Cutting: Not following marker lines, resulting in distorted parts. Letting knife lean causing top and bottom ply to be of different sizes. Notches: Misplaced, too deep, too shallow or omitted Oil Spots: Equipment improperly oiled or cleaned Improper Knife Sharpening: Causing ragged, frayed or fused edges on bundles Knife or Scissor Cut: Piece damaged by over run in cutting previous piece
Open/Broken Seams: Open seams are unstitched openings in seams seen in isolated units Broken Stitch: Broken stitches are evident as non continuous threads Drop stitch/Skipped stitch: Irregular stitching along the seam Wavy/staggered stitching: Stitches are not straight Uncut/ loose thread : Extra thread or loose thread on seam line Sewing Defects Open/Broken Seams Broken Stitch Wavy Stitching Uncut/ loose thread
Defected finished components by size i.e. imperfect size and shape of finished components. Imperfect garments size. Use of wrong ticket. Missing of any parts or predetermined design of garments. Imperfect alignment of components i.e. button, hook, and so on) in proper place. Wrong placing or creasing of interlining. Looseness or tightness of interlining. Folding of any parts of garments that is seen to bad appearance. Shade variation of garments. False direction of fabric parts in the garments. Imperfect matching of trimmings in the garments.
