The brief history of Gearys Bakeries. Barrow upon Soar We moved to the Barrow upon Soar bakery, unit 25 in 2010, from the Ratby site that had been established back in 1906, 4 generations earlier. It had 3 major expansions on the site during this 104 year period. The site was also very “tired” and inefficient for process, due to working on different levels. It was then a typical Craft Bakery with large product listings and hundreds of daily deliveries. Due to the growth of our relationship with ALDI and the very successful launch of the Award winning Bloomer product range. We soon realised that extra capacity was required. A further significant investment saw the co-joining of unit 23 in 2014, after negotiations with the existing tenants to leave. The unit was fully refurbished, new equipment purchased and production began. After a very short period of time, the Directorship team realised if we were to carry on as a major supplier to ALDI and fulfil the 25% YOY growth figures we were enjoying with the award winning bloomer products, we needed seriously to look at even further capacity. We felt this was required to maintain our 99.9% “on time-in full” reputation and demonstrate the business commitment we have with ALDI . The Glenfield seed was laid!!
