I can start the clinical program immediately. No, the minimum admissions requirements must be completed to apply to the clinical program. Most programs start in the fall semester. Only Radiography, Nursing, Medical Assisting, EMS, and Phlebotomy start in both fall and spring. Myths

I can work 40 hours, take care of a family, and have an active social life. It is not realistic to think you can do all of these things and successfully complete your program. Most programs take about 20 hours of clinical and lab time per week. Studies say that students should be studying 2 hours for every 1 hour of class. Programs are Full-Time, Day-Time programs. Clinicals can start as early as 6:30Am, hospitals never close. Myths Cont’d…

I can just take a couple classes at a time. While this is true for pre-curriculum classes, and general curriculum classes, this is not the case for clinical classes. Clinical Classes are done in a specific order and during a specified semester. The clinical program is considered a full time day time program. Myths Cont’d…

I will just start the clinical classes after completing the minimum requirements. All Health Science programs are limited enrollment. You must submit a clinical application upon completing the minimum admissions requirements, and be accepted into clinicals . The clinical application is different from the Wake Tech application. Myths Cont’d…

This is different from the Wake Tech Community College application. Can be found under the specific program at http://hsadmissions.waketech.edu Clinical Application

Once I have applied to clinicals I will be on the waiting list. Admissions into Health Science programs are NOT done on a wait list. Competitive programs Radiography, Nursing, Dental Assisting, and Dental Hygiene. First come first served programs Therapeutic Massage, Phlebotomy, Pharm Tech, and Emergency Medical Science . Priority Admissions programs M edical Lab Tech, and Medical Assisting Applications do not rollover. You must submit a new application if you are not selected for clinicals . Myths Cont’d…

Nur 66 seats, Rad 24 seats, Den 24 and 26 seats Limited clinical seats = Competitive admissions procedure. Points system based on class grades. A=4, B=3, C=2 Eng 111 is 3 credit hours 3 Credit hours X grade of A (4) = 12 points *Note all programs have more applicants than available seats ** Cannot guarantee entry Competitive Entry – not a wait list

Pbt 18 seats, Ems 28 seats, Mth 18 seats, and Phm 14 seats First come first served process Minimum admissions requirements must be complete *Note all programs have more applicants than open seats. ** Must submit new clinical app if not accepted. Not a wait list. Non-Competitive Entry

MLT 24 seats, and MED 24 seats Priority points based on general classes completed with C or better Still first come first served *Note all programs have more applicants than open seats. ** Must submit new clinical app if not accepted. Not a wait list. Priority Entry

A student who has more of the general classes completed will have a higher priority. 2 are awarded points for Bio 163 completion. Example MLT Priority Admissions General Classes MED ENG 111 ENG 112 CIS 111 PSY 150 MAT 143 HUMANITIES ELECTIVE BIO 163

Background check, drug testing, and medical forms are required by the individual clinical sites. Students admitted to programs that require a clinical or Co-Op component will be required to provide the College with an official criminal background check, drug test, and medical forms in order to meet the requirements of the clinical site. These forms will be required when the applicant is admitted to the clinical portion of a health sciences curriculum. The term "criminal record" is at this point in time being understood broadly to include the conviction of any felony, misdemeanor crime, or DUI/DWI over the course of the student's lifetime and the charge (dismissals, prayer for judgments, etc.) of any felony, misdemeanor crime, or DUI/DWI within the last seven (7) years, excluding minor traffic violations Questions contact Barbara Smith at 919-747-0105 or [email protected] Background Checks Etc…
