Generic Plavix Tablets

Generic Plavix Tablets (Clopivas) is an inhibitor of platelet activation and is used to prevent blood clots in coronary artery disease, peripheral vascular disease, and cerebrovascular disease.

Generic Plavix (Clopidogrel Bisulfate )
is a platelet inhibitor used to treat
patients with Acute coronary syndrome,
recent myocardial infarction (MI), recent
stroke, or established peripheral arterial
disease.

Generic Plavix is available as Clopivas
manufactured by Cipla Ltd., India. This
medicine is used to prevent blood clots
in coronary artery disease, peripheral
vascular disease, and cerebrovascular
disease.
The active ingredient present in Generic
Plavix (Clopivas Tablets) is Clopidogrel
Bisulfate

Clopidogrel bisulfate is a white to off-
white powder. It is practically insoluble in
water at neutral pH but freely soluble at
pH 1.

Generic Plavix Tablets is a P2Y12 platelet inhibitor
that is used in the treatment of :
Acute coronary syndrome
- For patients with non-ST-segment elevation ACS
[unstable angina (UA)/ non-ST-elevation myocardial
infarction (NSTEMI)] including patients who are to
be managed medically and those who are to be
managed with coronary revascularization, Plavix
has been shown to decrease the rate of a combined
endpoint of cardiovascular death, myocardial
infarction (MI), or stroke as well as the rate of a
combined endpoint of cardiovascular death, MI,
stroke, or refractory ischemia.

- For patients with ST-elevation myocardial
infarction (STEMI), Plavix has been shown to
reduce the rate of death from any cause and the
rate of a combined endpoint of death, re-infarction,
or stroke.
Recent myocardial infarction (MI), recent stroke,
or established peripheral arterial disease
Plavix has been shown to reduce the combined
endpoint of new ischemic stroke (fatal or not), new
MI (fatal or not), and other vascular death.
Indications

The recommended dosage for the treatment of
various indications is given below:
Acute Coronary Syndrome:
Non-ST-segment elevation ACS (UA/NSTEMI):
300 mg loading dose followed by 75 mg once daily,
in combination with aspirin (75-325 mg once daily)
STEMI: 75 mg once daily, in combination with
aspirin (75-325 mg once daily), with or without a
loading dose and with or without thrombolytics

peripheral arterial disease: 75 mg of Generic
Plavix once daily

Contraindications
Clopivas Tablets (Generic Plavix) is
contraindicated in patients with a
hypersensitivity to Clopidogrel Bisulfate or
any inactive component of this medication.
It is also contraindicated in patients with
active pathological bleeding, such as peptic
ulcer or intracranial hemorrhage.

Side Effects of Clopivas Tablets
Bleeding, including life-threatening and fatal
bleeding, is the most commonly reported side
effect.
Thrombotic Thrombocytopenic Purpura
(TTP), sometimes fatal, has been reported
following use of Generic Plavix, sometimes
after a short duration.

Warnings And Precautions
Concurrent use of Generic Plavix with medicines
that are strong or moderate CYP2C19 inhibitors
have to be avoided
Since Generic Plavix increases risk of bleeding, it
has to be discontinued 5 days prior to undergoing
surgery.
Premature discontinuation of Clopivas Tablets
increases risk of cardiovascular events.

Warnings And Precautions
Combination use of Generic Plavix and aspirin in
patients with recent transient ischemic attack or
stroke was not shown to be more effective than
Generic Plavix alone.
Thrombotic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (TTP)
has been reported with Generic Plavix, including
fatal cases.
