The forgotten hero Subhash Chandra Bose, popularly known as Netaji, was a great militant, freedom fighter and a patriot. He was born in Cuttack, Orissa on 23rd January 1897 to Janakinath Bose and Prabhavati Devi. His father Janakinath Bose was a well-known lawyer of his time. His mother Prabhavati Devi was a religious woman.  Subhash Chandra was a brilliant student who had scored the second position in the matriculation exam. At an early age, he started reading about Swami Vivekananda and Ramakrishna and was influenced by their teachings. Bose completed his B.A. Hons in Philosophy in 1918 from the University of Calcutta. He later went to England in September 1919 for further studies. He was selected for the Indian Civil Service but he did not want to stay in England and serve the British government. Subhash Chandra resigned from his Civil Service job in 1921 and returned to India after hearing of the national turmoil in India.  From a young age, Subhash Chandra Bose had the nationalist temperament and Britishers’ discrimination towards Indians would fill him with rage. To serve the country, he joined the Indian National Congress. Bose joined the Noncooperation Movement, started by Gandhi under his influence. Bose was a revolutionary freedom fighter who was known to have founded the Azad Hind Army or Indian National Army. For his revolutionary movements, Bose had been to jail several times. He was suspected of connections with secret revolutionary movements and was sent to Mandalay Jail in Burma (Myanmar) where he contracted Tuberculosis. Bose was elected the president of Congress party and worked along with Jawahar Lal Nehru, another great political leader. Both had a more militant and left-wing approach to Independence, which became a reason for Bose’s differences with Gandhi and other Congress leaders. Bose’s selfless contribution to India’s Independence Movement and organizing and leading the Indian National Army is indispensable. His struggle of Independence was highlighted during the Civil Disobedience Movement for which he had even been arrested. In fact, he was imprisoned 11 times for his ideologies and the use of force against the British. Bose was elected the president of the Indian National Congress twice but he resigned from the post as he was against the congress internal and foreign policy .   Subhash Chandra Bose was a great freedom fighter whose role in India’s Independence is instrumental. Through this essay, we learn a great deal about Subhash Chandra Bose and his life. Unfortunately, many few credit him for the independence of the nation. But still, he will remain in our hearts forever. By Sarthak Sharma Class IX A

Veer Gatha Gallantry Award Winners – Neerja motivates me to Gallantry awards these are the awards given by the government of India to honor the act of bravery and sacrifice of the Indian Armed Force and Civilians . After independence, gallantry awards namely Param Veer Chakra , Maha Veer Chakra, Veer Chakra etc. were instituted by the Government of India on 26 January 1950 . I like all the Gallantry Award winners but my most favorite and the one who motivates me is Gallantry Award winner ; Neerja Bhanot. She was awarded the Ashok Chakra. She was an Indian head purser who died while saving passengers on Pan Am Flight 73 which had been hijacked by terrorists during a stopover in Karachi, Pakistan. On 5th September 1986. Just couple of days before her 23rd birthday. Posthumously, she becomes the youngest recipient of Indian’s Highly peacetime Gallantry, the Ashok Chakra as well as other accolades from the Government of Pakistan and the United States. She sacrificed her to save the life of others. She motivates me a lot as she was fearless and courageous and always ready to help others and serve her nation. Her helpful nature and bravery inspires me a lot . Her story also tells a girl so called “weaker” in our society has the courage and capacity to do anything … By Manasa Karandikar IX A

Effect of COVID-19 on Our Global Environment Well yes, I totally agree to the gospel that the word ‘COVID-19’ when read has the most dreadful impact on us, very likely gloomy; however, we cannot shun the fact that it also made quite a positive response on our global environment. January 30, 2020 The World Health Organization (WHO) declared an outbreak of Public Health Emergency of International Concern, synonymous to COVID 19 and a global pandemic on 11 March, 2020. This led to countries all over the world to start two-to-three-week long lockdown. This further led to a huge reduction in traffic and pollution. No vehicles were to be seen on the roads, resulting in less air pollution and the ozone layer healing itself. Pause on jobs, offices, and employment ; lead to some more positive results like reduced number of ships sailing across oceans; spreading lesser amount of chemicals and gases which used to kill numerous of marine animals. Bird strikes- these are regular accidents which happens to occur when birds are hit by the aircrafts, sucked in by the turbines, birds dying from the heat and gases emitted from the aircraft while its fly, these accidents which occurred on regular basis declined by great deal when airways was on hold due to the pandemic. Every situation and episode has 2 sides to it- here, positively enhancing and negatively defeatist. COVID equally had negative effect on the global environment. Safety Precautions have been our top most priority past a year. Sanitizing practically every article you come in contact with, daily checks on your oxygen level, what not. Surgical facial masks or N95 masks and PPE suits have become an imperative need for all of us as they have the highest probability to prevent us from the virus; however, they need to be discarded immediately after use. This is resulting in huge amount of plastic waste being produced and disposed every 6 hours polluting more and more quantity of land mass. Some species that rely heavily on humans for feeding or scavenging, such as monkeys, gulls, and rats, could be struggling for their livelihoods. COVID-19 or SARS 19 brought both despair and repair with it, be it bad for humans and good for environment or vice versa. It has deeply affected our global environment in all ways. Effects of Covid 19 on Global Environment The Covid 19 virus outbreak in the world has affected everything, even our mother earth. In both negative and positive ways . There was no less plastic that was adding to pollution , and in addition to it we are now adding used P.P.E kits, masks, gloves, face shields etc. that pollutes the environment. As there was lockdown worldwide air pollution has decreased due to which our ozone layer which was damaged has recovered, the smog layer has decreased and the natural habitat of the animals has improved, which has flourished the wild life and even because of lesser vehicles the demand of oil petrol etc. has reduced . It has affected The Global Health and also reduced the waste management and recycling systems . it has given us clean water bodies and reduction of air pollution and noise pollution . Mother nature has blessed us with her love time to time by the seasons that were our guest on time , without any disturbance of humans . So we all should save our mother nature even after the pandemic is over for our future and next generation so that they can enjoy the beauty of the nature. By – Manasa Karandikar IX A

Poshan Maah The 4th Rashtriya Poshan Maah is being celebrated during the month of September 2021. Every year the Poshan Maah is celebrated under the POSHAN Abhiyaan(PM’s Overarching Scheme for Holistic Nourishment), which launched in the year of 2018. POSHAN Abhiyaan is the Government of India's flagship programme to improve nutritional outcomes for children, adolescents, pregnant women and lactating mothers by leveraging technology, a targeted approach and convergence. POSHAN Abhiyaan is not a programme but a Jan Andolan, and Bhagidaari, meaning "People's Movement". This programme incorporates inclusive participation of public representatives of local bodies, government departments of the state, social organizations and the public and private sector at large. National Nutrition Mission named as the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s overarching scheme for Holistic Nutrition –POSHAN Abhiyaan was launched as a multi-ministerial convergence mission, with the overarching vision to make India malnutrition free by 2022. In order to ensure community mobilization and bolster people’s participation, every year, the month of September is celebrated as POSHAN Maah across the country. Poshan Abhiyaan overall intends to increase nutritional awareness and responsiveness. By ensuring an adequate, healthy diet in infants and young children, we can help them to develop into healthy, productive adults. Good nutrition helps children to grow properly and the strength to play and learn. A key component of optimal nutrition during childhood and beyond is adequate intake of important micro- and macronutrients. Therefore, such a healthy drive is essential for the advancements of the citizens Contributed by: Shreya Srivastava IX A

How we will be able to time travel 13.5 billion years in the past and see how the universe used to look some time after it was formed!! Recently NASA has invented a very powerful telescope. You might wonder what’s great about a telescope. But its information and uses will make even the ones who don’t know much about space very interested in it. The $10 billion James Webb Space Telescope — NASA's largest and most powerful space science telescope — may probe the cosmos to uncover the history of the universe from the Big Bang to alien planet formation and beyond. Big Bang theory is the theory of the creation of this universe. It is predicted that it occurred around 13.8 billion years ago!! This means that the telescope will look back in time. The James Webb telescope can look 13.5 billion years back in the past. Now you might wonder how we can uncover the mystery of the big bang which happened such a long time ago. Well it is basic science. We all know that we see things when light strikes an object and falls on our eyes. The space is so big that even the speed of light can’t reach you so easily. Consider an asteroid moving. The light strikes the asteroid and it takes 13.5 billion years for the light to come to us. This means that there may have been many changes in these 13.5 billion years but, we don’t know it because the light is still travelling to uncover the mystery. Let's see what we find from this telescope. The mission was launched on 25th December 2021 and It will take about 30 days for the James Webb Space Telescope to travel nearly a million miles (1.5 million kilometres) to its permanent home - a Lagrange point which is a gravitationally stable location in space. The panels on the telescope which reflect light are made up of pure gold. By - Aditya Joshi IX A

Ek Bharat Shresht Bharat …

EK BHARAT SHRESHTHA BHARAT ‘ EK BHARAT SHRESHTHA BHARAT ‘has not only taught us more about various states that unite to make India one of the most diverse countries, nevertheless it has also brought together students from all over India . . ‘ EK BHARAT SHRESHTHA BHARAT’ is a governmental programme which focuses on improving communication and understanding between different states of India . This is done by pairing two states together and, their so far sustained goals have been language learning, culture, traditions & music, tourism & cuisines and sports. For this and the past year Maharashtra was paired with Odisha and we were told to make manifold projects on the cuisine, art , culture and tradition differences between Maharashtra and Odisha. CBSE also provided us with a few ‘odia’ words to be practiced monthly and I am pretty sure that people who relish learning new languages enjoyed this contemporary activity. Being from Odisha I enjoyed all these projects we were assigned because I saw this as a chance to tell others of just how amusing Odisha can be. Not many knew about Odisha and it made me uncomfortable to be talking about it to others but owing to this programme a lot of my classmates now have knowledge about Odisha By - Maira Hussain IX A
