internationalism The Westphalian and Concert systems divided the world into seperate , sovereign entities. comes in different forms Divided into two broad categories: liberal internationalism and socialist internationalism.

• Liberal Internationalism liberal internationalism, cluster of ideas derived from the belief that international progress is possible, where progress is defined as movement toward increasing levels of harmonious cooperation between political communities. Liberalism is about everyone having rights, but only capitalists having power through their control of production, their vast stores of money, and (through those two things) their control of national governments.

• Social Internationalism - socialist internationalism is about solidarity between working class people, the promotion of authentic democratic systems, and reducing or eliminating the power of capitalists, monarchs, and other authoritarians.

German Philosopher Immanuel Kant First major thinker of liberal internationalism (18 th century) Likened states in global system to people living in a given territory. international system would be chaotic the citizens of the countries must give up some freedoms and establish a continuously growing states consisting of various nations which ultimately include the nations of the world Kant imagine a form of global government.

British Philosopher Jeremy Bentham (who coined the word “internationalism” in 1780) International law objective global legislators should aim to purpose legislation that would create “the greatest happiness of all nations taken together”.

Italian patriot Giuseppe Mazzini (first thinker to reconcile nationalism with liberal internationalism, 19 th century) Metternich system He believe in a republican government (without kings and queens and hereditary succession) and propose a system of free nations that cooperated each other to create an international system. a United states of Europe Mazzini was the Nationalist, Internationalist, who believes that free, unified nation states should be the basis of Global cooperation.

Woodrow Wilson (United States President, 1913-1921) one of the 20 th century’s most prominent internationalist he forwarded the principle of self determination – the belief that the world’s nation had a right to a free, and sovereign government democracies League of Nations At the end of World War I in 1918, he push to transform the league into a venue of conciliation and arbitration to prevent another war awarded Nobel Peace Prize in 1919 League gave birth to some of the more task-specific international organization that are till around until today World Health Organizations (WHO) and the International Labour Organization (ILO).

The League was the concentration of the concepts of liberal internationalism. it emphasize the need to form common international principles (Kant) it enshrined the principles of cooperation and respect among the nation-states (Mazzini) called for democracy and self-determination (Wilson) the League of the Nations principles survived World War II.

Karl Marx (German socialist philosopher, was also an internationalist) Did not believe nationalism believe that any true form of internationalism should deliberately reject nationalism, which rooted people in domestic concerns instead of global ones. he did not divide the world into counties, but into classes Capitalist class referred to the owners of factories, companies, and other “means of production”. Proletariat class included those who did not own the means of production, but instead, work for the capitalist.

Marx and co-author, Fredrich Engels Believe that in socialist revolution seeking to overthrow the state and alter the economy. Proletariat “had no nation” they opposed nationalism because they believe it prevented the unification of the Worlds workers. nationalism could make the workers in individual countries identify with the capitalist of their countries.

Socialist International (SI) a union of Europian socialist and a labor parties established in paris 1889 Declaration of May 1 as a Labor Day and the creation of International Womens Day initiated the successful campaign for an 8 hour workday Russian Revolution of 1917 Czar Nicholas II overthrown and replaced by a revolutionary government lead by the Bolshevik Party and its Leader, Vladimir Lenin Union Sovet Socialist Republics (USSR) vanguard- a group of a people who are leader of an action or movements in the society, politics and etc. COMMUNIST PARTIES
