4. Poetry It is a form of literature that uses rhythmic qualities of language, and is organized in lines and groups of lines called stanzas.

5. Poem A poem is all about, alluding to specific topic or t heme. The poet uses a combination of rhythm word choice, sounds, rhymes, structure and more to create a piece of writing that stirs the reader’s feelings.

6. Poem Some of the most common themes that poets write about are: -love -family - growing up and ageing -nature -animals -bravery and courage -friendship -good vs evil -war

7. MAJOR TYPES OF POETRY Lyric Poetry Narrative Poetry Concrete Poetry

8. LYRIC POETRY It is a highly musical verse that expresses the observation and feelings of a single speaker. Examples : ode, elegy, sonnet & pastoral

9. NARRATIVE POETRY It is a story told in verse. Narrative poems often have all the elements of short stories, including characters, conflict, and plot. Examples : epic, ballad, romance etc.

10. CONCRETE POETRY It is a type of poetry that uses some sort of visual presentation to enhance the effect of the poem on the reader.

26. Perfect Rhyme occurs when the stressed vowels in both words are identical. Ex. floor - door elevation - revelation

27. Slant Rhyme is a type of rhyme in which multiple words have similar—but not exact—sounds. Ex. worm -swarm time - mine f riend- blend ways- grace

28. Eye Rhyme occurs when two words are spelled similarly and look like they would be pronounced the same but aren’t. Ex. womb- bomb laughter- daughter

29. Internal Rhymes occur within a single line of poetry, or between a word within a line and another word at the beginning or end of the same line. Ex. Their feet tapped to a beat as they walked right past me.
