CONFLICT- A s one of the elements of a story, is a STRUGGLE between two OPPOSING FORCES. When we say struggle, it is a forceful effort to reach an objective. And when we say opposing forces , it means , contradicting or fighting.

CONFLICT ALSO is an important element in the study of stories, novels, plays, movies, etc. it is also arises the problem in the story. And it has two categories namely : INTERNAL and EXTERNAL CONFLICT.

Internal conflic t It also refered as character vs. self. It is the struggle within the character. this sometimes requires the main character to make decisions between right or wrong.

External conflict IT IS A CONFLICT BETWEEN CHARACTER AND AN OUTSIDE FORCE.

INTERNAL CONFLICT

EXTERNAL CONFLICT

Man vs. self Character faces an internal struggle and his/her own thoughts, feelings, or conscience such when making a decision or judgement controling once anger, or stoping from loving someone.

another example : in the movie Mulan this is an example of Internal conflict because as the lyrics said “Now I see, that if I were truly to be myself I would break my family's heart -Who is that girl I see Staring straight back at me” meaning she is battling with her own self decision.

Man vs. Man In which two (or more) characters are in conflict. A Common type of conflict where all acts and struggles lies on the protagonist and the antagonist..

Man vs. Nature , A Conflict that involves the struggle between the characters and the natural forces of nature such as typhoons, earthquake, or volcanic eruption, an animals or an contagious disease .

Man vs. supernatural In which a character faces supernatural forces. This can be against gods, ghosts, or monster. For example, in the epic poem. Beowulf wherein Beowulf battled with the monstrous creature named Grendel

Man vs. Society A CONFLICT that involves the struggle between a character and the rules or culture of society, beliefs or cultural tradition in which character in the story lives.

Examples of Man vs. society breaking the rules, being descriminated, or standing up alone on what the characters believes to be right .

Man vs. Technology In which the conflict is rooted in science. It is when a character is facing a machines or robots and must prevail against the character. the character struggles to accept or use the technology of a changing world.

Resolving conflicts in non-violent ways is the peaceful way in solving conflicts
both in literary selections and in real life. Providing non-violent resolution to conflicts is important in rebuilding good relationships and in avoiding more serious problems that may arise in the future. The following are some of the
correct attitude or strategies in resolving conflicts in non-violent ways:

1. Listening – paying close attention and understanding what others are trying to say and explain . 2. Dialogue – discussing the issue between the opposing parties in a positive and peaceful approach . 3. Empathy - trying to understand the situation, feelings, and ideas of others
by considering how would you act or behave if you were in the same situation.

4. Anger management – controlling one’s strong, aggressive emotions properly . 5. Constructive reaction – reacting by doing the right thing instead of being aggressive or vengeful against the people or forces you have conflict with . 6. Forgiveness and reconciliation - letting go of anger and restoring peaceful relationship with others you had conflict with.
