CLASSROOM RULES Listen Be quiet when someone is speaking Raise your hand if you want to say something relevant

Describe how the height of the sun in the sky relates to the position of the Earth in its orbit. Draw the height of the sun in the sky relates to the position of the Earth in its orbit. Appreciate the importance on how the height of the sun in the sky relates to the position of the Earth in its orbit

REVIEW

REVIEW What are seasons? Seasons are different periods of the year that are distinguished by special weather and climate conditions.

REVIEW What is axis? Axis is an imaginary line passing through the center of the Earth that goes through both the North pole and the South pole.

REVIEW What is a rotation? Rotation is the spinning motion of an object in its own axis.

REVIEW What is revolution? Revolution is the orbital motion of an object around another object.

ACTIVITY TIME!

INSTRUCTIONS Students will be grouped into four and will be given activity sheets. 2. Draw the Earth revolving around the sun with its Northern hemisphere tilted toward the sun. 3. Answer the following questions

ANALYSIS What will happened to the northern hemisphere as the Earth revolves around the sun if the axis is tilted toward the sun? How about in the southern hemisphere?

The sun shines directly on the northern hemisphere and the sun shines indirectly in the southern hemisphere.

How does the earth’s orbit and the height of the sun affect the season?

As the earth orbits the sun, the position of its axis relative to the sun changes. This results in a change in the observed height of our sun above the horizon. For any given location on earth, our sun is observed to trace a higher path above the horizon in the summer, and a lower path in the winter.

When the earth’s axis points towards the sun, it is summer for that hemisphere. When the earth’s axis points away, winter can be expected

What is the importance on how the height of the sun in the sky relates to the position of the Earth in its orbit?

To have ideas in the different climates on the Earth

Any questions?

Instruction: Read and understand the questions carefully. Choose the best letter and write your answer on a separate sheet of paper.

1. Which pole is pointed towards the sun when the northern hemisphere is experiencing winter? A. North Pole B. East Pole C. South Pole D. West Pole

2. Why do seasons change? A. Seasons change because the sun is directed to the southern hemisphere only. B. Seasons change because the sun is tilted to both Northern and Southern Hemisphere. C. Seasons change because the earth is stationary directing its rays to Northern and Southern Hemisphere. D. Seasons change because direct rays of the sun shift from one hemisphere to the other as the earth goes around the sun.

3. Why are the seasons different in the Northern and Southern hemispheres? A. During summer or winter one part of the planet is closer or farther to the sun B. The earth is continuously rotating around the sun. C. The sun is moving around the earth so one half the earth is heated and the other half is frozen. D. The earth’s distance to the sun is constant

4. Do the tilt of the earth and revolution around the sun affects the seasons? A. No, because it only affects the Earth’s length of day B. No, because it’s the Earth’s distance from the sun that affects the seasons C. Yes, because these allows different parts of the Earth to receive the same amount of energy D. Yes, because these allows different parts of the Earth to receive different amounts of energy

5. Lina lives in the Japan and her friend Aly lives in Australia, during February Lina is experiencing winter while Aly is experiencing summer, what is the reason for this? A. Aly lives in a high latitude place compared to Lina. B. Lina lives in a high latitude place compared to Aly. C. Lina and Aly’s country have same distance from the equator. D. Lina and Aly are living in countries that are in opposite hemispheres.

Assignment Write down 3 advantages and 2 disadvantages of Philippines’ location in terms of season. Write your answers in ¼ piece of paper

Thank you and Be safe!
