CONDITIONALS Type

Hello ! I am your science teacher Graham . Today , we are going to learn some facts about biology , physics , and chemistry .

We are going to talk about states of water first . Water can have three different states . It can be solid , liquid and gas .

Water is normally liquid . Its state changes if the temperature changes

If water goes below 0 °C, it freezes . If water freezes , it turns into ice .

but... If you heat ice , it becomes liquid again . Ice becomes water if it goes above 0 °C.

If you heat water to 100 °C, it evaporates . Is it possible to change these facts? No , we can not change them. They are all facts that are always true.

Now , let’s talk about some other facts .

If you put oil and water together , the oil stays on the top. If you put oil and water together , water doesn’t stay on the top .

If your body temperature is over 37 °C, you get sick .

Is it possible to change these facts? No, we can not change them. They are facts that are always true. If you don’t water a house plant , it dies

TYPE O FORM: If+present simple + present simple If water freezes , it turns into ice. If you put oil and water together , water doesn’t stay on the top.

Be careful ! The order of two clauses does not change the meaning. But do not start with a PRONOUN. Ice becomes water if it goes above 0 °C. If ice goes above 0°C , it becomes water

TYPE O USE We use “ Type 0” to talk about general truths and scientific facts and t o tell about things that are always true and never change . If you heat ice , it becomes liquid again .

Now it is time to practise ! Read the following statements . If the statement is true , write “T”. If it is false , write “F” and rewrite the statement . Have a look at the example below: ______ If you heat ice , it becomes gas . F If you heat ice , it becomes liquid again . Are you ready ?

1-___ If you mix yellow and red , you get blue . 2- ___ A balloon rises , if there is air in it. 3- ___ If you don’t get enough sleep , you never get sick . 4- ___ If there are 366 days in a year , it is a leap year . 5- ___ If you eat too many fatty foods , you lose weight . Let’s check our answers . 1- F If you mix yellow and red , you get orange . 2- T A balloon rises , if there is air in it. 3- F If you get enough sleep, you never get sick. 4- T If there are 366 days in a year , it is a leap year . 5- F If you eat too many fatty foods , you put on weight .
