INTRODUCTION This study aimed to determine the Level of English Proficiency of the Bachelor of Secondary Education Major in English Students of Palawan State University (PSU) – Coron. It was conducted at Palawan State University, located at Sto . Dipulao Brgy . 6 Coron, Palawan. There were a total of 44 respondents among the Bachelor of Secondary Education Major in English Students. The study used modified questionnaire and was utilized using frequency and percentage to identify the socio-demographic profile of the respondents. The mean was used to determine the Level of English Proficiency of the respondents, and the Pearson-product moment correlation was used to determine the significant relationship of the socio demographic profile of the respondents and their English proficiency level. It revealed that most of the Fourth year Bachelor of Secondary Education Major in English students served as respondents in the study were found at the Good English Proficiency level, which means that they can perform the actions with these skills without assistance.
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM This study entitled “English Proficiency of the BSED-English students: Basis for Language Proficiency Development Program” specifically, seeks to answer the following questions : 1. What is the demographic profile of the respondents? In terms of: a. Age b . Sex c . Socio economic status; and d . Resources at home 2. What is the level proficiency in English of the respondents? 3. Is there a significant relationship between the profile of the respondents and their English proficiency, Based on: a . Age b . Sex c . Socio-economic status; and d . Resources at home
METHODOLOGY The population for this study was the 4 th year students of Palawan State University-Coron Campus, who took the program of Bachelor of Secondary Education Major in English. The study used modified questionnaire. The questionnaire was adopted from related studies about English proficiency to gather the data; the researchers used tests questions based on the researcher’s intentions. The research instrument also includes details that required respondents profile such as age, sex, socio-economic status and resources at home. With the used of instrument the researcher were able to find out all the information used in determining the proficiency of the variable. The researchers used statistical tools and procedure such as percentage, mean and Pearson product-moment correlation. This study used this strategy to find out if the independent and dependent variables has any relationship and to identify the intervention program.

Discussion The following conclusions were drawn based on the findings of the study . 1. In terms of the respondents’ demographic profile, the age of the respondents’ ranges from 22 to 23 years old, consisting of 11 males and 33 females. Most of the respondents’ socio-economic status belongs to poor income status. t he majority of respondents’ resources uses at home are books. 2. Majority of the Bachelor of Secondary Education Major in English, that served as the respondents’ of the study were found at the level of Good English Proficiency, which means that they can perform the actions with these skills without assistance.
3. The socio-demographic profile of the respondents does not affect the level of proficiency of the BSED English, Fourth year. Interpreted that there is no significant relationship between the profile of the respondents and their English proficiency. 4. The Palawan State University Coron Campus should continue the programs that develops and improves the English proficiency of the Bachelor of Secondary Education Major in English students.
