ENDOCRINE SYSTEM The endocrine system is a messenger system in an organism comprising feedback loops of hormones that are released by internal glands directly into the circulatory system and that target and regulate distant organs.
Endocrine System Functions What does your endocrine system do? Its glands create and release hormones that control almost all processes in your body. They coordinate your metabolism, growth, and development, and control your emotions, mood, sexual function, and even sleep.
The endocrine hormones help control mood, growth and development, the way our organs work, metabolism , and reproduction. The endocrine system regulates how much of each hormone is released. This can depend on levels of hormones already in the blood, or on levels of other substances in the blood, like calcium. what is the importance of endocrine system?
ANTERIOR PITUITARY HORMONES
ANTERIOR PITUITARY HORMONES The anterior pituitary gland, also known as the adenohypophysis, is a vital component of the endocrine system located at the base of the brain. It synthesizes and releases several key hormones that play crucial roles in regulating various bodily functions.
Importance of Anterior Pituitary Hormones:
1. Regulation of Other Endocrine Glands: Many anterior pituitary hormones regulate the function of other endocrine glands, thereby influencing hormone production throughout the body. 2. Maintenance of Homeostasis: These hormones help maintain a stable internal environment by regulating processes such as metabolism, growth, reproduction, and stress responses. 3. Critical Development and Function: They are essential for normal growth, development, and reproductive function from childhood through adulthood.
Examples of Anterior Pituitary Hormones:
1. Adrenocorticotropic Hormone (ACTH) - Stimulates the adrenal glands to release cortisol, which helps regulate metabolism, immune response, and stress levels. 2. Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH) - Stimulates the thyroid gland to produce thyroid hormones (T3 and T4), which regulate metabolism, growth, and development. 3. Growth Hormone (GH) - Stimulates growth, cell reproduction, and regeneration in humans and other animals. Also plays a role in regulating metabolism. 4. Follicle-Stimulating Hormone (FSH) - In females, stimulates the growth of ovarian follicles and promotes estrogen production. In males, stimulates sperm production. 5. Luteinizing Hormone (LH) - In females, triggers ovulation and promotes progesterone production. In males, stimulates testosterone production.

POSTERIOR PITUITARY HORMONES Your posterior pituitary is one of two lobes that make up your pituitary gland, which is a small, pea-sized endocrine gland located at the base of your brain. Your posterior pituitary’s main functions are to store and release the hormones oxytocin and vasopressin (antidiuretic hormone).
POSTERIOR PITUITARY HORMONES The posterior pituitary is the back lobe of your pituitary gland, which is a small, pea-sized gland located at the base of your brain below your hypothalamus. Your pituitary gland is made of two lobes: the anterior (front) lobe and posterior (back) lobe. Your pituitary gland is a part of your endocrine system. The posterior pituitary stores and releases just two of the many hormones your pituitary gland is responsible for: oxytocin and antidiuretic hormone (ADH, or vasopressin).
The hormones produced by the posterior pituitary gland include vasopressin and oxytocin. Vasopressin is also referred to as antidiuretic hormone (ADH) and acts on the kidney to conserve water. Example of posterior pituitary hormone As mentioned earlier, vasopressin acts on the renal tubules in the kidneys, causing them to reabsorb more water from the filtrate, resulting in a more concentrated urine. This helps conserve water in the body, especially during times of dehydration or low water intake.
DEFINITION OF THYROID HORMONES A gland located beneath the larynx (voice box) that makes thyroid hormone and calcitonin. The thyroid helps regulate growth and metabolism. Also called thyroid gland.
WHAT IS THE IMPORTANCE OF THYROID HORMONES? Thyroid hormone is the hormone that's mainly responsible for controlling the speed of your body's metabolism. In infants, thyroid hormone is critical for brain development. Your thyroid, a small, butterfly-shaped gland located at the front of your neck under your skin, makes and releases thyroid hormone.
PARATHYROID HORMONES Parathyroid hormone is secreted from four parathyroid glands, which are small glands in the neck, located behind the thyroid gland. What are Parathyroid Hormones?
PARATHYROID HORMONES Bones – parathyroid hormone stimulates the release of calcium from large calcium stores in the bones into the bloodstream. Kidneys – parathyroid hormone reduces loss of calcium in urine. Intestine – parathyroid hormone indirectly increases calcium absorption from food in the intestine, via its effects on vitamin D metabolism .
