What is Organic Farming? Reasons for emergence of Organic farming: India and O rganic farming: Constraints in its Development Future Prospects:
OBJECTIVES: To e xamine the emergence of organic farming in India in comparison with other countries of the world. To compare the performance of organic farming across different states of I ndia. To review the comparisons of organic farming with conventional farming.
Data Sources: secondary such as: NPOF (National Project On Organic Farming) FIBL STATISTICS APEDA(Agriculture And Processed Food Products Export And Development Authority)
DEFINITION The word “ Organic” means an ecological management production system that promotes and enhances biodiversity , biological cycles and soil biological activity . It is based on the minimal use of off-farm inputs and on management practices that restore, maintain and enhance “ecological harmony ”- USDA Thus, Organic farming recognizes the direct connection between our health and how the food we eat is produced. Artificial fertilizers are banned and farmers develop fertile soil by rotating crops and using compost, manure and clover.
PRINCIPLES OF ORGANIC FARMING :
REASONS FOR GROWTH OF ORGANIC FARMING: Reduce the toxic load Reduce if not eliminate off farm pollution Protect future generations Build healthy soil Taste better and true flavor Assist family farmers of all sizes Promote diversity Avoid Hasty and Poor Science in Your Food
