ARC011 Arch Drawing - Fall 2025
Dr. Yasser Mahgoub
Introduction
The course ARC011 – Architectural Drawing constitutes a fundamental component of the Architectural Design and Digital Architecture Program. It is intended to provide students with a systematic grounding in the principles, methods, and conventions of architectural representation. Emphasis is placed on developing both technical proficiency and conceptual clarity in the use of drawing as a primary tool for analysis, communication, and design exploration.
The document outlines the framework of in-class activities and at-home assignments scheduled for the Fall 2025 semester, organized on a weekly basis. Each activity and assignment is structured to progressively cultivate the essential skills of freehand drawing, geometric construction, projection systems, scale conversion, shading, shadow rendering, and compositional techniques. Together, these exercises aim to establish a strong foundation for subsequent courses in architectural design.
Students are expected to engage rigorously with the course requirements, to demonstrate accuracy and consistency in their work, and to maintain preparedness with all required tools and materials. The integration of continuous assessment with midterm and final examinations ensures a comprehensive evaluation of both process and outcome. Ultimately, this course seeks to instill in students the discipline, precision, and creativity necessary for architectural practice and academic advancement.
