A GUIDE TO EFFECTIVE SONGS LEADING Welcome to

The role of the songs leader IN worship To begin quote Habakkuk 2:20 to draw everyone’s attention of the presence of the spirit of God hence the to comport ourselves. It’s important to know however that as a songs leader, you are in-charge of the worship and it’s orderly organization to a very large extent depends on you. Indeed, you are also the controller, moderation. Therefore one needs to be adequately prepared to be meet the challenges to the Glory of God. Before you begin see to the sitting arrangement to facilitate singing . Carefully prepare a list of songs eg.Hymns a nd copy the operator. Do not introduce a song you can’t sing yourself.

Praising God through singing is a command In all Christian assemblies . As it’s written in Ephesians 5:19, Colossians 3:16 Therefore singing is not an optional act of worship, God requires our thanksgiving. We sing to make melody in our hearts, teaching and admonishing one another. Our object of worship is to uplift the holiness of God

Our songs should be selected in : PSALMS HYMNS SPIRITUAL SONGS

THE BEGINNING OF WORSHIP Dress smartly and decently as all eyes would be focused on you. Begin with songs good enough for the start-up and slowly build up the momentum, idealy it should be more than just a song. Depending on the time and occasion, you either increase or decrease the stanza of the songs. Announce the program of the day and ensure all brethren on the list are present. Opening song and prayer should be by standing. Give the tone of the song and if you have a bad voice in the day,pre - arrange with someone in the congregation to assist you. If it’s a Hymn mention the title and tell the number of stanzas you want the church to sing.Sometimes by the help of your fingers. You may briefly summarize after the teaching/sermon if you wish. Do not attempt to re-teach or preach, that's not you assignment. Avoid throat chocking tunes and songs at the beginning of service’

Study the congregation and correct the following When the Church appears tired by standing, please let them sit down since you are dealing with the aged, sick and sometimes expectant mothers. When you observe people sleeping, it's a sign they might be bored therefore let them stand for awhile. When a song seem dull and the Church is not responding, quickly stop the song and change your style. When you notice some members are not participating in the singing, make a general announcement to get all involved. Children form part of the worship rituals apart from the Lord’s Supper so they must be remembered to get involved . The use of mobile phones in the auditorium shouldn’t not be encouraged. Make an open announcement to this effect.

Our children must be part of worship

ENSURING ORDERLINESS IN WORSHIP Choose songs appropriate for each occasion i.e. opening, invitations,Prayer request, lord's Supper/Giving and closing. The songs leader must always possess a hymn book. Intersperse local choruses with the foreign i.e.english hymns to enable equal participation and understanding. Speak audibly but not noisily for the congregation to understand you. Let your general demeanor command respect and boost your confidence level. Be conversant with the program you are running. Closing songs should be praises by standing and more than one song. When children are loitering in the chapel, call the attention of the ushers on duty to assist . Discourage standing and sitting outside the auditorium, let all inside.

THE CONDUCT EXPECTED OF A SONGS LEADER DURING WORSHIP Be mindful of your posture and body language behind the pulpit. Avoid needless joked, you are in Church. Songs leaders are required to sit close to the pulpit, avoid walking around. As much as possible avoid gestures when leading the Church. Choose wholesome words when addressing the Church. Lead the songs for the congregation to follow. It's your duty to control the tempo of the songs you’re conducting. Intermittently announce the programmed outline. Sing yourself as you lead, the congregation is watching you. Ensure that children do not climb unto the podium.
