CONTEXT CUE – The first step is the trigger or cue telling your brain to go into automatic mode. The cues triggers brain to initiate a behavior .it is a bit of information that predicts a reward. CRAVINGS – Cravings are the motivational force behind every habit ,with out some level of motivation or desire ,with out carving a change individual have no reasons to act . RESPONSE – The response is the actual habit we perform, which can take the form of a thought or an action. Whether a response occurs depends on how motivated we are and how much friction is associated with the behavior . REWARDS – Rewards are the end goal of every habits we chase rewards because they satisfy us and teach us. Reward is associated with continuing the same behaviors which leads to habit formation POOJA SEN M.SC NURSING (MHN)

BREAKING OF BAD HABIT Habits are learnt responses which may be good or bad. Bad habits are not desirable ,so it is essential for the welfare of an individual to break those habits. Some important methods of breaking such habits are following. Removing rewards – habits are learnt last, certain learning principles. When a response is followed by some reward it is repeated again and again . At last, it becomes a habit. Similarly bad habits also have some associated rewards .it can be physical or psychological from. Physical means money or food psychological like appreciations, satisfaction . Example – a child has a bad habit of not doing homework. This bad habit always impels the teacher to send him out from the class coming out from the class is a relief for the child .so rather than asking him to go out ,if the child is instructed to finish the given work in play time or recess time will break the habit of not doing it at home. 2. Punishment – law of effect states that learnt response is followed by punishment ;the response will be stopped. Simply if a habitual behavior is punished continuously the bad habit will be stopped. Example- if the child punished for his stealing habits ,it will be stopped. Habits of smoking ,drugs are successfully broken with this technique. Every attempt of picking cigarette results into a safe electric shock .ultimately the individual gets able to hold his urge for cigarette then stop smoking. 3. Learning to differentiation between good and bad habits. 4. Company of good friends 5. Good models 6. Early Recognition POOJA SEN M.SC NURSING (MHN)
