Hadda Beetle Scientific name: Henosepilachna vigintioctopunctata ( Fab .) H. Dodecastigma ( Wiedemann ) Order : Coleoptera Family : Coccinellidae

Hadda beetle Distribution: Indian subcontinent from Arabia to Taiwan. Host plants : Brinjal, potato, bitter gourd, pea pods, cucurbits etc. NOD: (Damaging stage: Adult and grub). Female lays yellow cigar shaped eggs, mostly on the underside of leaves, in batches of 5-40 each. Both the adults and grubs cause damage by feeding on the upper surface of leaves. They eat up regular areas of the leaf tissue, leaving parallel bands of uneaten tissue in between. The leaves, thus, present a lace-like appearance. They turn brown, dry up and fall off and completely skeletonise the plants

Management of hadda beetle 1- Collect and destroy adult beetles, grubs and pupae. 2- Shake plants to dislodge grubs, pupae and adults in a pail of kerosenated water early in the morning or collect them mechanically and destroy. 3- Continuous cropping of brinjal and potato should be avoided. 4- Grow resistant varieties like Arkashirsh , Hissar , Shankar vijai 5- Spraying of insecticides: Spinosad 45SC @ 0.35 ml/L, Cypermethrin 10 EC @ 1 ml/L, Chlorantraniliprole 18.5%SC @ 80 ml/acre or 0.4 ml/L or malathion 50 EC 1.5L or Azadirachtin 0.03% 2.5-5.0 L in 500 - 750 L of water
