Read the following passage: Once upon a time there lived a little, fat, pink Piggy. His parents decided to take him to Appu Ghar for a picnic. The little Piggy danced all day long. He had planned many ways he would enjoy there. He started playing with a red ball there. Piggy did not realise that while playing with his ball he had reached the middle of the road. Suddenly a big, speeding truck came and was about to crush Piggy. The alert driver applied the brakes in time and Piggy was saved.

1. Describing words are called ADJECTIVES . 2. Quality words are called ADJECTIVES . 3. Adjectives describe qualities of Nouns or Pronouns. 4. Adjectives give an additional qualities of a NOUN . Points to remember:
5. Colours when used before Nouns are ADJECTIVES . Example : green leaves, red jacket. Blue pen, yellow flower etc.
Adjectives of quality: Example: Tall giraffe, small squirrel.
The briefcase is empty.
Tiger is a strong animal.
Roses are beautiful flowers.
Dog is a faithful animal.
Examples : Two ducklings, four puppies. Adjectives of quantity:
There are two parrots in the picture.
Four babies are sitting together.
Three kittens are sitting in the basket.
ADJECTIVES of Quantity When an Adjective tells us about the quantity of something, it is an Adjective of Quantity. The cup has a little coffee in it. A few letters are there in the box.
There are many trees in the forest.
There is a little tea in the tea-pot.
There are many fruits in the basket.
DEMONSTRATIVE ADJECTIVES When an Adjective points out the person or thing that is referred to or talked about is called a DEMONSTRATIVE ADJECTIVE. This house is beautiful.
This horse has won the race.
These flowers are beautiful.
Those birds are flying in the sky.
