What is half wave rectifier A rectifier circuit in which the half part of the cycle either positive or negative of AC is converted to DC is defined as the half wave rectifier. If the positive half cycle is considered then the negative half cycle of source gets blocked or the negative cycle of the source is considered in that case positive cycle gets blocked.
Working of a Half- wave rectifier The circuit consists of a single diode in series with the AC supply and the load resistor .As the sufficient supply is provided the diode converts AC to DC the resultant will be unidirectional by utilizing the half cycle of the supply.
Average value of the half wave rectified signal The average voltage equation for a half wave rectifier is VDC = Vm/π.
Characteristics of Half wave rectifier RMS value of Half wave rectifier. RMS is defined as the root mean square value. For load current the RMS value can be given as I RMS= Im /2 V RMS= I RMS.RL V RMS= Im /2* RL E= Pdc /Pac The maximum efficiency produced is 40.6%
Ripple of half wave rectifier Ripple factor determines how well a half wave rectifier can convert AC voltage to DC voltage.
Form factor of half wave rectifier The form factor is the ratio of RMS value to the DC value.
Advantages Half wave rectifier is a simple circuit. It has a low cost. We can easy to use it. We can easily construct. It has a low number of component, therefore it is cheap.
