What is Halloween ?
•Halloween
or
Hallowe'en
also known as
All
Hallows' Eve,
 is a yearly holiday observed
around the world
 on October 31..
•It is celebrated on the eve of
the
Western Christian feast of All Hallows.
•Many believe it started with Festival of
Harvest or Festivals of Dead, celebrated in
past.

How it is celebrated?
Typical festive Halloween activities include
 trick-
or-treating, attending
 costume parties wearing
frightening costumes or masks,
carving
 pumpkins into jack-o'-lanterns,
lighting
 bonfires, apple bobbing,
visiting
 haunted attractions, playing pranks,
telling scary stories, and watching
 horror films.

Trick or Treat ?
•Trick-or-treating is a customary celebration
for children on Halloween. Children go in
costume from house to house, asking for
treats such as candy or sometimes money,
with the question, "Trick or treat?" The word
"trick" refers to a (mostly idle) "threat" to
perform mischief on the homeowners or their
property if no treat is given. In this custom the
child performs some sort of trick, i.e. sings a
song or tells a ghost story, to earn their treats.

Tips
•NEVER refuse free candy, even if you hate it! If
you get candy you don't like, trade it with
friends, or give it away.
•NEVER go out without some sort of a
costume. Even if you just put on wild face
paint or a bedsheets with holes, do
SOMETHING to show you're trying. Some
adults won't give you any candy if you don't
wear a costume.

Tips
•If you're older, try going around later in the
evening when smaller kids are indoors. Most
adults want to get rid of all excess candy
before the night is over, and will give you
whatever they have left.
•If a house gives particularly good candy, make
a note of it and tell your friends. Share the
wealth!

Tips
•To easily double your intake of candy go
around the neighborhood twice, once with a
mask, and once with face paint or a different
mask. As long as there's a lot of people out,
nobody will notice. If there's fewer people
out, throw on a coat or something else to
change your appearance. If you get caught
apologize, and offer to give the candy back.
Most people won't really care, though.

A good Rhyme
•"Trick-or-treat, smell my feet,
give me something good to
eat, if you don't, I don't care,
I'll pull down your
underwear!"
