Parasites: What are they and why are they important? Mercury takes a little more than 58 days to complete its rotation, so try to imagine how long days must be there! Since the temperatures are so extreme, albeit not as extreme as on Venus, Mercury has been deemed to be non-habitable for humans Mercury is the closest planet to the Sun and the smallest one in the entire Solar System. Contrary to popular belief, this planet's name has nothing to do with the liquid metal. Mercury was, instead, named after the famous Roman messenger god Mercurius
T he slide title goes here! Do you know what helps you make your point crystal clear? Lists like this one: They’re simple You can organize your ideas clearly You’ll never forget to buy milk! And the most important thing: the audience won’t miss the point of your presentation
T he world of parasites Venus has a beautiful name and is the second planet from the Sun. It’s hot and has a poisonous atmosphere Mercury is the closest planet to the Sun and the smallest one in the Solar System—it’s only a bit larger than the Moon C haracteristics Types of parasites
The effects of parasites Mercury is the closest planet to the Sun and the smallest of them all Venus has a beautiful name and is the second planet from the Sun Despite being red, Mars is actually a cold place. It’s full of iron oxide dust Diseases Symptoms Consequences
Parasites: Intruders Mercury is the closest planet to the Sun and the smallest of them all Venus has a beautiful name and is the second planet from the Sun Earth is the third planet from the Sun and the only one that harbors life Saturn is a gas giant and has several rings. It’s composed of hydrogen and helium Diagnosis Treatment Prevention Control

Parasites are intruders
Parasites and their hosts Host Parasite Description Humans Ascaris lumbricoides A common intestinal roundworm that can grow up to 35 cm long and causes Ascariasis Dogs and cats Toxocara canis / T. cati Intestinal roundworms that can cause a range of health issues in their hosts including blindness and digestive issues Snails Schistosoma mansoni A blood fluke that causes schistosomiasis. The parasite uses snails as an intermediate host, infecting humans when they come into contact with contaminated water Mosquitos Schistosoma mansoni Malaria parasites that infect humans and other animals through the bite of infected mosquitoes Pigs Taenia solium A tapeworm that can cause taeniasis in humans and cysticercosis in pigs and humans. Ingestion of undercooked pork is a common source of infection

A picture always reinforces the concept Images reveal large amounts of data, so remember: use an image instead of a long text. Your audience will appreciate it

Life cycle of the parasite 01 Egg or cyst stage: The parasite begins as an egg or cyst that is excreted from an infected host into the environment 02 Larval stage: The egg or cyst hatches into a larva, which can either infect a host directly or wait for ingestion by a suitable host 03 Penetration stage: The larva penetrates the host's skin or mucous membranes and enters the bloodstream or lymphatic system 04 Migration stage: The larva migrates through the host's body, often causing damage to tissues and organs along the way 05 Maturation stage: The larva matures into an adult parasite, which may reproduce sexually or asexually within the host 06 Reproduction stage: The adult parasite lays eggs or releases offspring into the host's body 07 Shedding stage: The eggs or offspring are shed from the host's body, either in feces, urine, or other bodily fluids 08 Infection stage: The eggs or offspring are ingested by a new host, either directly or through contaminated food, water, or soil, and the cycle begins again
Symptoms of parasite infection Mild symptoms Fatigue Diarrhea Nausea Vomiting Loss of appetite Abdominal pain Mild fever Muscle pain Itchy skin Severe symptoms Severe abdominal pain Persistent vomiting High fever Anemia Jaundice Weight loss Seizures Breathing problems Kidney failure Possible complications Severe anemia Malnutrition Intestinal obstruction Cancer Neurological problems Infertility Organ damage Increased risk of bacterial infections
C attle tapeworm The eggs are ingested by an intermediate host 01 The larvae penetrate the intestinal wall 02 The larvae migrate to the host's muscles 03 Where they develop into fluid-filled cysts 04 They release eggs that are eliminated 05
