Healthcare Cost , Access & Quality
What is The Iron Triangle? Theorem created by William Kissick C onsists of three key elements: cost, a ccess, and q uality Ideal goals: reduce healthcare costs, increase access & improve quality.
Cost- Health Care Expenditures There are two perspectives on the meaning of cost: Micro perspective Macro perspective Cost is a key determinant of the assessment of quality.
Access The ability to obtain needed, affordable, convenient, acceptable, and effective personal health services in a timely manner. Five dimensions to access: availability, accessibility, accommodation, affordability, and acceptability.
Quality There are two dimensions of quality: Micro view Macro view The Donabedian Model Obtains three domains in which health care quality could be examined: structure, process, and outcomes.
Texas is currently ranked 48th in overall healthcare performance The Commonwealth Fund gathered data for each of the 50 states plus the District of Columbia for 7 categories, compiling a ranking for each plus an overall ranking Texas's health care quality and access has dropped for women, minorities, and low-income individuals since 2021, the last full year of data collected for these annual rankings
How can we improve this? Investments in several different health care sectors can help improve access to care Establishing protocols to standardize care Increasing the amount of people with insurance coverage
