HEART Heart is an organ made up of muscles that is situated slightly tilted towards the left in thoracic cavity. It is situated between two lungs and behind the sternum.
PERICARDIUM Pericardium is a double layered membrane that covers the heart. Pericardial fluid which in filled in between these membranes protect the heart from external shocks and helps to reduce friction between the membranes when the heart beats. It act as a barrier preventing harmful germs from reaching the heart. Thus protect the heart from infection.
CHAMBERS OF THE HEART RIGHT ATRIUM LEFT ATRIUM RIGHT VENTRICLE LEFT VENTRICLE
NOTE: Left side of the heart carries oxygenated blood and right side of the heart carries deoxygenated blood.
VALVES IN BETWEEN CHAMBERS TRICUSPIC VALVE : Present between right atrium and right ventricle BICUSPID VALVE : Present between left atrium and left ventricle Function: To prevent backflow of blood
STRUCTURE OF HEART Deoxygented blood enters the right atrium from superior and inferior vena cava. Blood in right atrium flows through tricuspid valve into the right ventricle From right ventricle CO2 contained blood move to lungs through pulmonary artery From lungs oxygenated blood move towards the left atrium through pulmonary vein. Blood in the left atrium flows through bicuspid valve into the left ventricle The oxygenated blood move through aorta to different body parts..
