MORPHOLOGY
8 Habit - Perennial herb Root – Fusiform Stem - 5 to 8 ft. tall. Leaves - Pubescent when young, lower leaves are 30 to 60 cm long, ovate shaped. Cauline sheaths are large, from which inflorescence comes out. Secondary & tertiary pinnate are decurrent, entire or very irregularly crenate-serrate. Inflorescence - Terminal compound umbel. Fruit - 8x5 mm, having vittae, reddish-brown in colour. Useful part - Niryasa (Exudate) The mass will be gummy or waxy, will have differnt sizes and shapes. Surface is smooth, dull opaque or vitre-ous, ranging from light brown to chocolate in colour, when we break it becomes pieces exposing a waxy surface withnumerous cavities, more often filled with glossy resinous material, thin pieces are translu-cent. It has got strong aromatic odour, tastes pungent and bitter.

Amayika Prayoga (Therapeutic indications) 1. Madatyaya (Alcoholism) If patient fell unconscious after the consumption of alcohol, then Sauvarcala salt should be mixed with Hiñgu (Ferula narthex) & Marica (Piper nigrum) given with wine and sour gruel till the patient regains consciousness. 2. Unmada (Insanity) Ghee processed with Hiñgu niryasa (Latex of Ferula narthex ), Leaves of Hiñgu ( Perula narthex ), Kayastha ( Elettaria cardamomum ) and Vayastha ( Bacopa monneiri ) may be used. Other wise Ghee processed with Vayastha ( Bacopa monneiri ), Hiñgu ( Ferula narthex ) and Coraka ( Angelica glauca ) is also very useful. 3.
