GHANDHARA CIVILIZATION ARCHITECTURE ( 1st millennium BCE to the beginning of the 2nd millennium CE). The architecture of Gandhara, like its sculpture, combines local characteristics with elements derived from both Indian and western precedent. Gandhara attained its height from the 1st century to the 5th century CE under the Kushan Empire, who had their seasonal capitals at Bagram (Kapisi) and Peshawar (Puruṣapura).

MOHANJODARO AND HARAPPA CIVILIZATION: Mohenjo-Daro had a planned layout with rectilinear buildings arranged on a grid plan. Most were built of fired and mortared brick; some incorporated sun-dried mud-brick and wooden superstructures. Sites were often raised, or built on man made hills. This could be to combat flooding in the nearby areas.

Best town planning. Great baths for ritual baths.

Harappans demonstrated advanced architecture with dockyards, granaries, warehouses, brick platforms, and protective walls. Unlike Mesopotamia and Ancient Egypt, the inhabitants of the Indus Valley Civilization did not build large, monumental structures.
