3. Introduction To Subject History of Eastern Architecture tries to create an appreciation of architectural developments in the minds of the students Guide students to explore the cultural and contextual determinants that produced a specific architectural vocabulary. It tries to understand architecture as a process, evolving within specific cultural contexts considering the aspects of politics, religion, society, climate, geography Also, throws an insight into the development of architectural form with reference to technology, influences and character of built forms.

4. Objectives To achieve an understanding of the development of eastern architecture with respect to society, culture , religion , technology, economy , climate and geography . To become familiar with the means of examination of historical evidence To develop the ability to gather knowledge and experience for judgment and criticism .   To understand the relationship between the old and new buildings, between building and environment and to develop ability for conservation, adaptation and transformation .

14. ASSIGNMENTS Students should write illustration s in note books on at least three of the above topics with analytical note . Students should prepare a thorough analytical illustrated report on at least two structure of choice. One site visit outside the Kathmandu Valley may be scheduled (20 marks have been allotted for this assignment).
