Holistic care Holistic care comprehends the recognition and integration of body, mind, emotion, spirit, energetic environment, and connectedness to self, others, nature, and spirituality to create healing, assist in wellness, and recovery, promote and optimize comfort and harmony, and support and prevent illness. It will focus on relationship-centered and healing oriented rather than cure-oriented (ANA & AHNA, 2013). https://slidesgo.com/theme/wellness-retreat-center#search-holistic+care&nextSearchExpression-holistic&position-2&results-79&rs=search https://www.freepik.com/
Holistic Philosophy ( Jasemi et al., 2017) The holistic philosophy emerges from concepts of humanism and holism, which directs the treatment of patients according to a shared understanding of their physical, psychological, emotional, and spiritual qualities. It strongly emphasizes collaboration between the nurse and the patient and discusses medical requirements that aid rehabilitation. To achieve harmony beyond physical wellness, it thus draws on the biological, psychological, sociological, and spiritual elements of health, among others. Florence Nightingale first emphasized the need for holistic treatment. The foundation of holistic care is unity and a humanistic understanding of the patient. A holistic paradigm applies to all aspects of nursing care and has been present in many civilizations' healthcare systems. According to the American Association of Holistic Nurses, holistic nursing encompasses all nursing procedures that treat the whole person and enhance harmony between the mind, body, emotions, and spirit in a constantly shifting environment. https://slidesgo.com/theme/wellness-retreat-center#search-holistic+care&nextSearchExpression-holistic&position-2&results-79&rs=search
To promote psychosocial and emotional well-being for patients and facilitate their physical healing, we can implement some practices to improve patient satisfaction and happiness and our relationships with them. The importance of holistic nursing care: How to completely care for your patients (2022): addressing the patient's name correctly making eye contact, asking about their feelings and showing care smiling when it is appropriate using therapeutic touch and communication advocating for them and their dignity educating them about self-care implementing ways to reduce anxiety and relief pain using pharmacological and non-pharmacological ways to manage pain, anxiety, and comfort teaching relaxation therapies educating about alternative and complementary treatments inquiring and providing cultural, religious, and spiritual respect Holistic Philosophy into Nursing Practice https://slidesgo.com/theme/wellness-retreat-center#search-holistic+care&nextSearchExpression-holistic&position-2&results-79&rs=search https://www.freepik.com/
Holistic Theory – Theory of Human Care and Caring Science Jean Watson Jean Watson's Theory of human/transpersonal care focus on how nurses express care in the humanistic aspect, connecting science and practice. Gonzalo (2021) explains that Watson defined person, health, and nursing in the metaparadigm concepts; the human being is the valued person to be cared for, respected, nurtured, understood, and assisted as a functional integrated self, the distinctive of uniqueness. Health as a whole is composed of physical, mental, and social functioning without the presence of illness. Gonzalo (2021) pictures the nursing process in Watson's Theory as the scientific research process of assessing (observing and identifying), planning (variables to be examined or measured, and data collected), intervening (implementation of the care plan), and evaluating (interpretation of the results). Watson's Theory utilizes health promotion holistically, treating the individual as a totality of mind, body, and soul. Watson's work focus on promoting growth and looking at the patient for what they are and can become. This theory emphasizes transpersonal care and interaction between nurse and patient as a mutual relation. https://slidesgo.com/theme/wellness-retreat-center#search-holistic+care&nextSearchExpression-holistic&position-2&results-79&rs=search
Holistic Theory in Nursing Practice According to Sitzman & Eichelberger (2017), Watson teaches about the carative factors in the nursing care process (Gonzalo, 2021): showing kindness in a humane value system composure within the context of conscious care being present, refining transpersonal self (beyond ego-self) connecting with the patient in an authentic help and trust relation being supportive being creative in processing and practicing care and problem solving engaging in teaching and learning creating a comfortable environment to promote healing assisting in the basic needs of the human as a whole permitting existential-phenomenological forces https://slidesgo.com/theme/wellness-retreat-center#search-holistic+care&nextSearchExpression-holistic&position-2&results-79&rs=search https://www.freepik.com/
Ethical Principle - Beneficence The principle of beneficence sees the main objective of healthcare as doing good for the patients under their care. Being good refers to more than just giving clients technically competent care. It is about providing a holistic approach to the patient, necessary for good care, and this includes considering the client's beliefs, feelings, and wishes as well as those of their family and other important people. The challenge in putting the beneficence principle into practice is figuring out what is beneficial for someone else and who is best suited to decide on this good (Catalano, 2019). https://slidesgo.com/theme/wellness-retreat-center#search-holistic+care&nextSearchExpression-holistic&position-2&results-79&rs=search
Ethical Principle into Practice The patient should be treated with the highest level of care to promote well-being. So that can happen, alternative therapies and complementary therapies should be provided and discussed with the patient in combination with traditional care. To promote a holistic approach, we must observe and respect their beliefs, feelings, and wishes and avoidance of harm. Evidence-based practices and alternative therapies are fundamental to addressing body, mind, and spirit. Ruesink (2018) shows some alternative therapies that will help promote the highest level of healing and promote the beneficence principle: Acupuncture Stress management/ relaxation techniques Aromatherapy Light therapy Meditation Hypnosis Hydrotherapy Wellness coaching Reiki Journaling https://slidesgo.com/theme/wellness-retreat-center#search-holistic+care&nextSearchExpression-holistic&position-2&results-79&rs=search https://www.freepik.com/
