HONESTY

What is honesty? Being honest means you do and say things that are truthful Truthful: Saying or showing what happened in the real world, based on facts, not imagination. It means not lying and not deceiving another person.

Ways to be honest Telling the Truth Saying what really happened, based on facts Not Hiding The Truth Showing or telling the whole truth Acting Truthfully Not doing things that involve tricking or hurting others for your own benefit Lying is dishonest Hiding the truth is called deceit or trickery and it’s dishonest Acts like cheating, stealing, and misleading are dishonest

WHY SHOULD WE BE HONEST?

Values Activity Video

YOU DON’T HAVE TO FEEL GUILTY If you tell the truth, you don’t have to feel guilty and you don’t have to worry about getting caught.

YOU EARN RESPECT You earn respect from people like family, friends and even strangers. Being honest will make you a trustworthy and better person No one will believe a liar, even when he is telling the truth (STORY OF THE BOY WHO CRIED WOLF)

OPPORTUNITY At work, when you’re honest employers will put their trust and faith in you to do a task and you could get a high chance for promotion. At school, if you avoid cheating during exams you will never miss the opportunity to learn because you do not depend on other people.

Why is honesty important? We all need honesty to live together in a society. Trust Safety Society

Trust Safety Society What would happen if everyone lied and tricked each other? To live and work together, we need to know we can trust each other. Honesty

HONESTY WITH YOURSELF Group of 5 sharing (15 mins) Presentation: each group

Why is it important to be honest with yourself?

When you are honest with yourself, you gain sense of humility to accept when you’re wrong You become more self-aware You will be able to accept changes for the better If you live with truth, you will be able to live the most fulfilling life that you can have

Are there times when its okay to lie?

1. Your aunt asked you if you liked the ugly, uncomfortable sweater she knitted for you 2. Friend A told you some mean things about Friend B. Friend B asked you if they have said anything about him/her? 3. Your friend asks you to play with him/her next week and you agreed. When the week comes, you don’t feel like seeing them anymore. What will you do?

White Lies These are minor lies that people tell to avoid hurting someone’s feelings or to be polite. For example, telling someone that their new haircut looks great when it doesn’t.

SUMMARY The aspect of honesty is essential in our lives. Honesty implies being truthful to others and oneself Before we are truthful to others, we must be honest with ourselves. Dishonesty, lies and falsification of facts are only momentary and short-lived.

SUMMARY Sometimes the truth hurts and it comes with a price but if you want to be the best that you can, you should choose to be honest. It’s okay to lie sometimes if you think someone could get hurt if you tell them the truth or sometimes they don't like what you say . It depends on the context of the situation. Do not rationalize your negative actions.

Protected Value - You’re willing to pay a price for that protected value.     Self-Improvement - It is a life-long journey. If we know how to admit the hard truth, who we really are, we have the opportunity to change.

THANK YOU! 
