Introduction Conduct of military personnel both professional and private is always guided by rules and regulations Code of Conduct written or unwritten is to be followed in the form of conventions Honour is the symbol of the professional officer's conduct The aim of BMA is to produce an ideal officer. The priority one training dimension in BMA is character building program. Key element of this is the introduction and pursuance of “ Honour Code.” 2

Honour Code signifies each OC’s moral obligation towards the people of Bangladesh, the Army and the Academy OCs of BMA are charged with the guardianship and custody of the Code Foundation of moral standards and ethical values of the OCs T he ideals expressed within the Honour Code are guidelines for behavior of any individual in any profession. 7th verse of Surah Noor , Allah states, “They solemnly invoke the curse of Allah on themselves if they tell a lie.” In the 38th verse of Surah Maida, He speaks of stiff penalty for stealing. As to cheating, in Surah Ankabut , Verse 4, He stated, “Do those who practice evil think that they will get better of other? Nay, evil is their judgment.” THE BMA HONOUR CODE DESCRIPTION 7

An OC’s oral and written words are true without qualification is fundamental to the Honour Code Lying Oral and Written Statements 10
Reports . “All reports must be hundred percent correct,” whether oral or written. Signature . An individual’s signature or initials affirm a written communication. When OCs put their signature or initials to a document they make an official statement that to the best of their knowledge the document is true and accurate. Lying Oral and Written Statements 11
Official Documents . All signed documents must be specific and exact in all respects. OC is responsible to read the document and the signature indicates compliance. The signature proves the accuracy of the statements on the document. Official Questions . OC is responsible for the correctness of his/her answer. Lying Oral and Written Statements 12

Nonverbal communication means a gesture, signal, movement, or any such indication without oral communication, which conveys a message, thought, or idea Examples include nodding head, raising hand, etc. All such nonverbal actions must be truthful Lying Nonverbal Communication 14
The criteria determining cheating is whether the act was fraudulent, wrongful, or illegal, and whether the OC gained or was given an unfair advantage as a direct result of the act Cheating 15
Misrepresentation . Presenting someone else’s ideas or works as one’s own and failing to acknowledge the assistance of anybody. Copying . OCs violate the Honour Code by stealing if they take, obtain, by any means any personal article from another person without his notice The cases of failures to return the item are an allegation of stealing. The wrongful removals of material from the Academy library, removal of pages from journals, or deliberate misfiling of references are unethical acts Stealing 18
Supervised/Unobserved Situations Gaining or attempting to gain an unfair advantage or violating existing rules and regulations in such an unobserved state would amount to a violation of the code by lying, cheating, or stealing. This may include cases like, not carrying the required amount of water in the water bottle, not carrying 13 articles in the haversack, visiting the city or cafeteria while on restriction, and scores of similar other acts. 19

ADMINISTRATION OF BMA HONOUR CODE During the 2nd week of the training, the 1st term cadets will swear the “Oath of Allegiance” in front of the whole Battalion 21
PROCEDURE FOR HANDLING HONOUR CODE VIOLATIONS a. Reporting a suspected Honour Code violation. b. Initial inquiry by cadet appointment holders. c. Detail investigation through Court of Inquiry formed by the Battalion Commander as and when needed. Decision of the Battalion Commander/Commandant. 22

CASE STUDY OC PITBULL went to OPC for leg pain and was given with 2 days attend/C by the medical officer. He wanted to avoid hardship thereby altered the digit 2 by 4 and made it 4 days attend/C. After completing 1.6 km run in the morning, OC MESSI entered into the enclosure of 6 whereas he scored 4 26
CASE STUDY OC BRITNEY was ordered to carry out 20 front rolls by PT Staff. But after carrying out 14 front rolls she stood up. Once she was asked about the incident the cadet denied the fact to the PT Staff. 27
