What is the goal of 500 Rummy? Players score points for laying down melds or adding cards to melds already laid down. Players lose points for cards still in their hand after their opponent ends the round. The round ends when a player lays down all of their cards. The player to reach 500 or more points first, over several rounds, wins the game. ♣♡♠♢

Hang on, what is a meld? A meld is either: Three or four cards of the same rank. (e.g. 3 Kings or 4 Fives ) Three or more cards in a sequence of the same suit in a continuous descending order. (e.g. Queen, Jack, Ten of Clubs) ♣♡♠♢

How do you setup the game? You play using a standard 52 card deck which is shuffled. Randomly choose the dealer who then deals 13 cards to both players. Place the remaining deck between the players. This is the stockpile. Flip the first card of stockpile over and place on the table to start the discard pile. ♣♡♠♢

Right. We are ready. So, how do you actually play? The non-dealer takes the first turn. On a player's turn follow these steps: Take a card. Either: The top card of stockpile. Any card from discard pile. The player must play this card this turn. The player must also add all the cards above the wanted card into the their hand. ♣♡♠♢

Got it, carry on…. If possible, lay down any melds the player can create using the cards in player's hand. If possible, add extra cards to the player's or opponent's laid down melds. Cards placed on opponent’s melds still count as the player’s cards for scoring. Discard a card from the player’s hand. This ends their turn. The opponent then takes their turn. ♣♡♠♢

How does the round end? The round ends when a player has no more cards in their hand or the stockpile has run out of cards. ♣♡♠♢

How do you score points? The player's score for the round is the value of the cards laid down in melds minus the value of the cards still in the player's hand. So it is possible for a player to have a negative score at the end of the round. ♣♡♠♢

What are the cards worth? The cards are worth the following points: Ace: 15 Points King, Queen and Jack: 10 points each. Number Cards: Their numerical value in points. Ace: 1 Point when played as a low card in a sequence. ♣♡♠♢

How do you win again? The winner is the first player to get a total of 500 points or more over several rounds. ♣♡♠♢
