The relationship of academic performance of tungawan national high school students towards bullying?
INTRODUCTION BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY This study longs to know the relationship of students’ academic performance towards bullying. Bullying is very rampant and widespread in almost past three decades. It is an unwanted aggressive behavior that involves an imbalance of power between two or more individuals ( Nanse et al.,2001; Olweus , 1993, 2010). This imbalance of power may be characterized by differences in size or strength, popularity, abilities, or numbers, among other characteristics. According to UNESCO Institute of Statistics, one third of the globe’s outside and school youth is bullied; this ranges from as low as 7% in Tajikistan to 74% in Samoa. Low socioeconomic status is a main factor in students bullying within wealthy countries. In the Philippines, the prevalence of bullying is higher than in other South- East Asian countries, bullied students are approximately reached to 47.7% (www.google.com). In our school, almost every day, students for some many reasons experience being bullied.
There are characteristics that can be seen on bullies in school. They act impulsive and controlling rather than leading. They even prone to frustration and feeling annoyed. They lack empathy; not sympathetic to the needs or desires of others. Victims, on the other hand usually suffer from anxiety, low of self-esteem and depression.
