Tve-8 module 2- performing mensuration and calculation Prepared by: Genelyn c. britanico / Epas Teacher

Pre-test instruction: test a. Answer the following questions. Choose the letter of the correct answer. Write your answer on your paper. It is the capacity of the component to resist the flow of current. a. Ohms b. Resistance C. Resistor

Pre-test 2. It is the unit of the resistance. Ohms b. Resistance C. Resistor 3. It is a process of setting the multi-tester to the standard form for accurate measurements. a. Calculating b. Calibrated c. Calibration

Pre-test 4. It is a non-linear scale where the reading of the resistance is based. Ohmmeter scale b. Voltage scale c. Ammeter scale 5. It indicates the value of the electrical quantity that has been measured. a. Test probe b. pointer c. Ohmmeter

test b: Get the reading of the following. Write your answer on your paper. R X10 4 . R X1 R X1000 5. R X10K R X100

ANSWER KEY: TEST A. 1. B 2. A 3. C 4. A 5. B TEST B. 1. 10 X 15 = 150 ohms 2. 22 X 1K = 22,000/22K ohms 3. 10 X 100 = 1000/1K ohms 4. 1 X 1 = 1 ohms 5. 48 X 10K = 480,000/480K ohms

LET US REVIEW!

REVIEW: PARTS OF THE MULTI-TESTER

REVIEW: PARTS OF THE MULTI-TESTER Multi-tester/volt-ohm milliammeter- It is an electronic measuring instrument that combines three functions in one unit. To measure the electrical resistance, voltage and ampere. POINTER- It indicates the value of the electrical quantity that has been measured .

REVIEW: OMMETER SCALE- a non-linear scale where the reading is based. RANGE MULTIPLIER- the portion of the ohmmeter where the actual reading is being multiplied.

REVIEW: ZERO-OHM ADJUSTMENT- it is adjusted when the pointer fails to zero. TEST PROBE- it serve as the input portion of the ohmmeter.

REVIEW: SELECTOR SWITCH- use to select the range. FINGER GUARD- it is where your finger is being protected when your are performing reading/testing.

The ohmmeter

What is ohmmeter? OHMMETER- Is a measuring instrument used to determine the resistance of the component of an equipment/appliances. -It is found in the multi-tester also called Volt-Ohm Milliammeter.

Ohmmeter Ranges x1 ohm x10 ohms x1k ohms x10k ohms READING THE SCALE OF OHMMETER

READING THE SCALE OF OHMMETER Minor divisions and their equivalents Minor Divisions Equivalent 0-2 0.2 2-10 0.5 10-20 1 20-50 2 50-100 5 100-500 20

Take Note: The reading of the resistance will depend on the range multiplier that you have selected. For example.: You have selected the range of X10 in the range multiplier and the reading of the resistance is 15, then the resistance value of the component is 150 ohms. 15 X 10 = 150 ohms

how to calibrate the multi-tester?

What is calibration? Calibration - is the process of setting the multi-tester in its standard form or setting the pointer at the zero ohm ( Ω ) by connecting the two test probe of the multi-tester to make sure of having an accurate measurements.

Steps On How To Calibrate: Step 1. Select the x1 range in the ohmeter scale. Step 2. Connect or short the two test probes (pointer will deflect) Step 3. If the pointer does not fall into zero (to the right) then adjust the zero ohm adjustment and make sure that the pointer will rest at zero. Do not disconnect the two test probe while you are doing the adjustment. Step 4. Connect again the two test probes and check if the pointer will rest at zero. Step 5. If it’s done, then proceed to the measurement.

how to measure the resistance using the multi-tester/volt-ohm milliammeter.

PROCEDURE: 1. Prepare the multi-tester. 2. Perform Calibration before making any reading or testing to make sure that you will get an accurate reading of the resistance. READING THE RESISTANCE USING MULTI-TESTER

3. Select the required range according to the resistance capacity of the component. 4. Put the two test probe on the opposite lead of the component. READING THE RESISTANCE USING MULTI-TESTER

Do not remove the test probe until you have read the measure of the resistance. List down the reading of the resistance and multiply it by the range that you have been selected before you perform the testing. READING THE RESISTANCE USING MULTI-TESTER
