1. HUGH OWEN THOMAS

2. History Hugh Owen Thomas descended from a young boy who had been shipwrecked in Anglesey an island near Wales in 1745. He was born on 23 rd August 1834 in wales and died on 6 th January 1891 in Liverpool. He trained with his uncle Owen Roberts in North Wales for 4 years and then he studied medicine at Edinburgh and university college London
He qualified as MRCS-Membership of royal college of surgeons in 1857. He initially worked with his father but because of his bad temperament he started his own clinic in 1859.

He was a eccentric man who always wore a black coat,had a patch over one eye and had a cigarette In his mouth A rumour was there that he would attack victims himself and break bones to get patients and treat them He practiced from his house at No 11 Nelson Street and every Sunday he would treat patients for free.

4. Achievements -Welsh Orthopaedic surgeon who was the father of Orthopaedic surgery in Britian. In the treatment of fractures and TV he advocated rest. Things named after him- 1)Thomas splint-Immobilization of fracture 2)Thomas collar-Cervical TB 3)Thomas’s test-To detect Flexion deformity of the hip. 4)Thomas’s wrench-To reduce fractures 5)Thomas heel Robert Jones was his nephew who had applied the splint during the first world war. He died on 6 th January 1891 in Liverpool.
