exaggerated statements or claim.
(They are not meant to be taken
literally!)
“I am so hungry I could eat
a horse.”
This an example of hyperbole
because you could not really eat
a horse no matter how hungry
you are.
In this example you
are emphasizing your hunger.
“I've heard that a million
times.”
This is an example of hyperbole
because it is exaggerated to
sound impressive.
"I nearly died laughing.”
This is an example of hyperbole
because you couldn’t simply die
from laughing.
In this example it is obvious
that it is said to sound impressive.
“He is a hundred feet
tall.”
He could not be literally a
hundred feet tall!
