INTRODUCTION Climate change is a pervasive and growing global threat to biodiversity and ecosystems. The rapid urbanization of world or India has also resulted in significant changes to people’s lifestyles. climate change refers to significant and lasting changes in the Earth's climate patterns over a long period of time, typically decades to millions of years. These changes are primarily driven by human activities, particularly the emission of greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide, which trap heat in the Earth's atmosphere and lead to global warming. The primary causes of climate change include the burning of fossil fuels for energy, deforestation, industrial processes, and agricultural practices. These activities release large amounts of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, enhancing the natural greenhouse effect and causing the Earth's average temperature to rise.
CONSEQUENCES OF CLIMATE CHANGE Rising global temperatures: Average temperatures around the world have been increasing, leading to more frequent and intense heatwaves. Melting ice caps and glaciers: The warming climate has caused ice caps and glaciers in polar regions to melt at an accelerated rate, contributing to rising sea levels. Ocean acidification: The absorption of excess CO2 by the oceans leads to increased acidity, which can harm marine life, particularly organisms with calcium carbonate shells, such as corals and shellfish. Extreme weather events: Climate change is linked to an increase in the frequency and intensity of extreme weather events, such as hurricanes, droughts, floods, and wildfires. Disruption of ecosystems: Changes in temperature and precipitation patterns can disrupt ecosystems, leading to shifts in habitats, loss of biodiversity, and threats to food security.
