An MLM genealogy tree where the distributors are arranged as the uplines and downlines of the network will help direct sales entrepreneurs to have a clear view about their network. So what is upline and downline in a direct sales business?
An upline is an existing distributor who bring in new distributor to the company. This existing distributor is also called as sponsor. They can receive a percentage f commission for bringing in new distributors thus motivating them to bring in more distributors.
Downlines are the new distributor who have been introduced by the existing distributor who are the sponsors. The distributors can place their downlines according to their favourable positions to improve earning opportunities and growth.
In a direct sales business, there is different types of compensation plans such as binary, unilevel, etc. In each of these plans, the downline distributors are placed differently. For example, in a binary genealogy tree, an upline distributor or sponsor can place two downline distributors as their two legs.
