1. Animal Husbandry -: It is a biological Science and art of management of domesticated animals, including scientific breeding, feeding, housing, and health care. 2 . Abattoir -: A slaughterhouse is called an Abattoir. 3. Ad-libitum -: It refers to allowing the animal to consume the greens and Dry roughage freely. 4. Beef- : The meat of a Cow is called Beef. 5. Bloat -: Abnormal Swelling of the abdomen of Livestock due to excessive gas formation. 6. Sire-: The male parent of Calf (Father ). 7. Dam -: Female Parent Of Calf (Mother).

8. Calf -: Young one of Cattle (Below 6 Months’ age). 9. Heifer -: Young female Cattle from 6 Months to 2.5 years of age. 10. Cow -: Adult Female of Cattle. 11. Bull-: A Young uncastrated Male of Cattle. (Use for Breeding ) 12. Teaser -: A Young castrated Male of Cattle. (Use for Heat Detection in Female) 13. Bullock -: An adult castrated male of Cattle. (Use for Draft Purpose) 14. Buller-: It is a sterile cow.

15. Parturition -: Act of giving birth to a new baby. A. Calving –Cow and Buffalo B. Kidding –Goat C. Lambing –Sheep D. Hen- Hatching 16. Gestation Period -: The pregnancy period of Livestock is called the Gestation period. Cow(280-283 Days), Buffalo (300-310 days )Sheep and Goat (145 to 150 days). 17. Castration -: Act of crushing or removing the spermatic cord in a male or female animal. 18 . Puberty -: It is the stage in an animal’s life indicating the first sexual activity.

19. Mating -: The union of Male and Female gametes to produce offspring this process is called Mating. A. Service –Cow, Buffalo, Goat. B. Tupping –Sheep C. Foaling –Hen 20. Roughages -: Feed stuff contains more than 18% CF and Less than 60 %TDN. 21. Concentrates -: Feed Stuff Contains Less than 18% CF and More Than 60% TDN. 23. Buffen -: Meat of Buffalo. 24. Mutton -: Meat of Sheep. 25. Chevon -: Meat of Goat. 26. Chicken -: Meat of Poultry Birds. 27. Veal -: Meat of Calf.

28. Culling -: It is the process of the removal of unproductive and Undesirable animals from the herd. 29. Herd-: Group of Cows or buffalo. 30. Flock -: Group of Chicks or Goat or Sheep. 31. Dehorning -: Removal of horns within a week after the birth of a young one. 32. Supernumerary teats-: Extra Non-functional Teats of Udder are Called Supernumerary teats. 33. Lactogenesis-: A process by which mammary alveolar cells acquire the ability to secrete milk. 34. Galactopoiesis-: Maintenance of lactation after initiation for a certain period is known as galactopoiesis or Leucopoiesis.
