INDIA AND THE WORLD

INDIA AND THE WORLD India is centrally located in Asia. The routes through the Indian Ocean connect countries of Europe and East Asia; thus, providing a strategic central location to India. Various passages through the mountains in the North were of great help for ancient travellers as the oceans limited such communications for ages. These passages contributed in globalizing the ideas of Upanishads, Ramayana, Panchatantra , Indian numerals and decimal systems. Likewise, Greek architecture can be found in various parts of our country.

QUESTION:- Why 82°30’E has been selected as the Standard Meridian of India? ANSWER:- IST is according to the Standard Meridian of India. i.e. 82°30E longitude due to following reasons: It is the central meridian of India passing through the middle of the country, so its time is equally suitable for the east and the west. There is a general tendency for all the countries of the world to select the Standard Meridian which is divisible by 7°30 longitude so that the minimum difference between countries is half an hour.
