Indian Art and Tradition
India is divided into 28 states and 8 union territories. States and union territories are
further divided into districts and subdivisions. The following table shows the famous traditional
art forms state and union territories wise.

5. Chhattisgarh Major folk games of Chhattisgarh are Falli, Matki Four,
Banti, Ibbha, Bhainra, Billas, Foda, Gidigada, Khilamar,
Gota, Ulanbanti, Naugatiya, Pari Parvara, Kukra-Kukri.
6. Goa performing arts, Indian and western dance forms, Goan
dances include Fugdi, Dhalo, and the Kunbi
7. Gujarat Warli Painting, Rabari Embroidery, Pithora Paintings,
and Rogan Painting
8. Haryana Woven furniture, artistic sheet metal work, wooden bead
making, zari & tilla jutti (leather footwear), lace work,
bone carving, wood carving
9. Himachal Pradesh Himachal Handicrafts and Handloom: Pahari paintings,
Chamba Rumal, Miniature Paintings, Metalcraft,
Jewellery, and Stone Carving.
10. Jharkhand Folk art includes – Sohrai, Jadopatia, Payatkar, Kohvar
apart from Ganju, Kurmi, Turi, Birhor, Bhuiya, Munda
and Ghatwal art.
11. Karnataka Yakshagana dance, Chittara (Traditional form of folk art)
12. Kerala Kathakali, Kalaripayattu, Koodiyattam, Theyyam,
Mohiniyattam, Thullal, Padayani, Pulikali,
Thiruvathirakali, Chakyarkoothu, Kalaripayattu (mode of
Sanskrit theatre from Kerala)
13. Madhya Pradesh Mandana (folk painting: wall and floor paintings )
