Ecomark is a certification mark issued by the Bureau of Indian Standards (the national standards organization of India) to products conforming to a set of standards aimed at the least impact on the ecosystem.

Indian Eco-mark

Eco-mark The ministry of Environment and Forest had launched the scheme of labelling of environment friendly product in 1991. Government of India has notified 16 categories of product for the purpose of development of eco-criteria and labelling . If the product meet the relevant standard notified manufacturer can apply to the Bureau of Indian standard .

Criteria To award eco-logo ministry has adopted a comparatively simple system based on quality of product. Impact of product on environment and energy efficiency.

Product must cause less pollution in comparison to other product. It can be Recycle and should contribute to save non-renewable resources. It Should not contribute to environmental health disorders . Its price should be low and complies with the laws standard and regulation pertaining to environment.

Technical Committee Set up on 6 march ,1991 For each product categories and a expert in field for drafting the criteria, committee advices and recommends product categories and prescribe the detail criteria for the award for ECO. Mark Ministry of Environment and forests reviews the product selected and criteria defined for giving Eco-mark .
