Indigenous Creative Craft Cagayan Valley & Central Luzon
Cagayan Valley It is in the Northern part of Luzon. It is irrigated with the waters from Cagayan River - the longest river in the country and is composed of the provinces of Batanes, Isabela, Nueva Viscaya and Quirino. 2
Cagayan Valley - Second largest region in the Philippines. - It is believed that this place is dominated by marimoths and other extinct animals 3
Central Luzon Central Luzon designated as Region III, is an administrative region in the Philippines, primarily serving to organize the 7 provinces of the vast central plains of the island of Luzon (the largest island), for administrative convenience. The region contains the largest plain in the country and produces most of the country's rice supply, earning itself the nickname "Rice Granary of the Philippines". 4
Central Luzon Central Luzon also has its share of colorful history. Malolos, Bulacan was the place where the first constitution of an independent Philippines was promulgated on January 21, 1899. Tarlac town became the seat of the Philippine government for one month in March 1899, when Pres. Aguinaldo left Bulacan to escape approaching US forces. 5

CAGAYAN VALLEY Ibanag - Predominantly found in the provinces of Cagayan and Isabela, the Ibanag people are known for their rich cultural heritage and language. 7
GADDANG Inhabiting areas of Nueva Vizcaya and parts of Isabela, the Gaddang are recognized for their distinct traditions and customs. 8
Agta (Central Cagayan) Also referred to as Aeta or Negritos, the Agta are indigenous to various parts of Luzon, including the Cagayan Valley. They are traditionally hunter-gatherers and are among the earliest inhabitants of the Philippines. 9
IVATAN The Ivatan people are primarily found in the Batanes Islands. They are famous for their vakul , a traditional headgear used by women to protect against the sun and rain. Their houses, made from stone, are uniquely built to withstand typhoons. 10
ITAWES The Itawes reside in the southern parts of Cagayan. They have their own dialect and are well-known for their agricultural lifestyle, particularly in rice farming. Traditional weaving is also a significant part of their culture. 11
MALAUEG The Malaweg people are closely related to the Ibanag . They reside in the western part of Cagayan Valley, practicing agriculture and maintaining rich cultural traditions through their rituals and way of life . 12
ISINAI The Isinai people are primarily found in the mountain areas of Isabela province. They are known for their farming, particularly rice farming, and their distinct language and cultural practices . 13
ILONGOT The Ilongot people reside in the mountainous areas of northern Cagayan. They are historically known for headhunting practices and are skilled hunters and farmers. Their culture is deeply rooted in animism and rituals. 14
Aeta - Also known as Ayta , the Aeta are among the earliest inhabitants of the Philippines. They are traditionally nomadic hunter-gatherers, characterized by their dark skin tones, short statures, and curly hair. Central Luzon 15
The Zambal people are the original Austronesian inhabitants of Zambales province. They have a rich cultural heritage, including traditional dances like the Sambali war dance. ZAMBAL 16

PANGASINENSE The Pangasinense people are known for their rich cultural traditions and festivals, such as the Pista’y Dayat (Sea Festival), which celebrates the bountiful harvests from the sea. 19

27 TALUGONG - Talugong , commonly known as salakot in other parts of the Philippines is a quintessential headgear worn by Ivatan men along with a woven vest from the leaves of voyavoy or Philippine date palm.
