SOCIETY Human beings are basically social animals. They live in groups. These groups form society which are essential for satisfying their needs. Society and individual are dependent as they develop their customs, values beliefs and norms for their comfortable living. The word SOCIETY usually refers not to a group of people but to the complex patterns of the norms of interaction arise among them. DEFINITION : Society is a system of usuages and procedures, authority and mutual aid of many groupings and divisions of control of human behaviour and liberties.------- Mac Iver . CHARECTERISTICS Likeness : A sense of belongingness , Intimacy and association to understand one another Interdependence : Survival is possible only when we are dependent on each other Co-operation : It is essential for happy social life Conflict : It strengthens social relationships It is a network of social relationship where different kind of social processess are established Society is permanent and dynamic Society helps in developing cultural values of human beings.

COMMUNITY Community represents a common interest of group life of like minded people. Usually small in size where people have sentimental attachment. The Word Community is derived from a Latin word COM--- COMING TOGETHER MUNIS ---- TO SERVE Community is a social organisation where people live in a definite locality to serve together. CHARECTERISTICS Locality : definite geographical area which enable social security, protection, and a bonding . Sentiment : A feeling of belongingness and living together to share their their common interests. Regulation of relations : A set of rules that shapes the members and institutions through norms, customs, morals and beliefs.

FUNCTIONS OF SOCIETY AND COMMUNITY FUNCTIONS : Community provides all its members a way for living through its services and the products manufactures, distributed and consumed. It prepares the individuals for the task through skill management techniques. Socialisation a way of preparing the next generation by transmitting values beliefs norms culture with the help of formal and informal groups. Social control is exercised through sentiments, set of rules and maintain community standards. Social participation is possible through various institutions and the interactions hat are helpful to mould the members character. There is mutual co-operation among its members or a hormonious living,
