Individual counseling Individual therapy (sometimes called “psychotherapy” or “counseling”) is a process through which clients work one-on-one conversation with a trained therapist in a safe, caring, and confidential environment because client may have unique problem and is not ready to disclose the problems in front of others.

Purpose of individual counseling To explore the feelings, Beliefs , or behaviors W ork through challenging or influential memories Identify aspects of the lives that would like to change B etter understand themselves and others S et personal goals W ork toward desired change

Role of counselor Talks privately about life issues and problems Listen carefully to help define goals and support the client Work to increase self esteem identify coping strategies

Merits of individual counseling Client get more personal Attention Talk openly alone Increase chances of development The client does not have to listen to the problems and issues of other people that may not be relevant to them.

Demerits of individual counseling There is less of an opportunity to learn about others with similar problems and how others address the issues . More expensive Depend on the level of comfort of client.

Types of counseling There are number of different types of counseling or psychotherapy that can be effective to cope up with problematic situations. Cognitive bahavioral therapy Dialectical behavior therapy Interpersonal therapy Psychodynamic therapy Solution focused therapy Person centered therapy Reality therapy

Cognitive behavioral therapy When negative or unhealthy views beliefs or perspectives are creating problem CBT can help patients to come up with positive replacements.

Dialectical behavior therapy Patients learn how to better manage stress and emotions in order to improve quality of life.

Interpersonal therapy The focus in in interpersonal therapy is on improving important relationships and the ability to relate positively with others.

Psychodynamic therapy Patients can learn how to increase their awareness of unconscious thoughts or behaviour that may be hurting them.

Solution focused therapy A brief therapy is a type of talking therapy that is based upon social constructionist philosophy . It focusing on what client want to achieve though therapy rather that on the problem that made them seek help Thee approach does not focus on the pass but focuses on the present and future.

Person centered therapy Taking the view that every individual has internal resources they need for growth person centered therapy aims to provide three core conditions Unconditioned positive regard empathy and congruence.

Reality therapy Reality therapy is a relatively new form of therapy in a world of counselling . reality therapy is an approach to teaching that emphasize problem solving personal responsibility and the need to address or eliminate the need of reality of an individual.
