2. Need of the Era
Overhead powerlines are a big threat to avian species. As per the current ongoing
era, the avian species poses enormous challenges in generating powerful
conservation inferences in a short time because of their rarity and long
generations.
Avian Collision with powerlines and electrocution due to short-circuits are a major
cause of mortalities found more often. These Avians are endangered to collide with
power lines when they frequently fly between the sea to their montane breeding
colonies and vice versa.

Bird collision with powerlines is a big global issue.

Birds collide with transmission lines because of low visibility issues or because they
are too much disturbed by something else such as courtship, hunting, or escape
from big predators. The said situations become worse while they deal with fog and
dense cloud cover.

not be more than 5m to 10m. It has also been advised that Bird Flight
Diverter should be visible at night.

19. Standard Guidelines As Per WII-1
Gap between two Bird Diverters, fixed on transmission lines near forests,
water bodies, creeks, landfills, forest lands or areas which falls directly in
flight path of birds should not be more than 5 meters.

20. In areas, beyond 2 kms of forests, water bodies, creeks, landfills,
forest lands or areas which falls directly in-flight path of birds, gap may
go up to maximum 10 meters.
