Informational Text

What is an informational text? Informational texts are written works that provide facts, data, and knowledge about specific topics. They aim to educate and inform the reader without offering personal opinions or fictional narratives. These texts are commonly found in textbooks, manuals, news articles, and other non-fiction sources. There are 2 types of informational text: journalistic text and non-journalistic text (expository text).

Journalistic Text Journalistic text is a type of text or writing that is clear, concise and colorful. It may refer to several kinds of texts contained in a newspaper: advertising, horoscopes, weather, crosswords, business reports, cartoons, film/book reviews, obituaries, and columns but the most representative genre is the informative news report (articles, editorials).

Non-journalistic Text (Expository Text) Expository texts are texts that give facts, examples, and information about a topic. It presents information in a logical order. It uses different text structures to organize information.
